Btw, do you know that ETA6497 was selected cause it resemble the Rolex pocket watch mvmt that was used by vintage PAM models?
It wasn't selected cos Panerai couldn't make mvmt.

The thing bout Panerai is that there's no movement out there big enough for it.
You really do not wanna see how some other brands use a 7.5mm plastic ring to case the small mvmt they have in a big watch.

Only 3 options were avail for Panerai & they are all pocket watch mvmt.

1st Option is Angelus pocket watch & but they no longer make anything for others.
2nd option is Rolex pocket watch mvmt which Rolex no longer wanna let Panerai have as it's perceived as direct competitor.
3rd option is ETA6497 which is actually licensed from Rolex pocket watch mvmt

To see this relationship between vintage Rolex pocket watch mvmt & ETA 6497, let us now look at the mvmt inside an ond 1950s Panerai Ref 6152 below:


And, compare it with my 219's ETA6497 shown below:


Do you se the uncanny resemblance?
Now we know ETA6497 was selected cos it is the direct descendant of Rolex mvmt that was used in most vintage PAMs....

It not a choice...it's a matter of history matching.
The selection was also influence by the lack of big mvmt availability....
Other brands may select 6497 for cost benefit, Panerai selected 6497 cos it's history remaking for em
