  • Panerai SIHH 2016...8 New Releases...

It's the time of the year and SIHH 2015 is upon us the fans of this Italian Brand. Some very interesting pieces have been introduced and I am so loving the Radiomir tropic dial however, being a SE of 1000, doesn't seems to be possible owing one, for me at least...

Now let's look at the line up...

These new models houses the new p4001 and p4002 with power reserve and gmt functions which is now thinner than the previous p4000 movement due to the updated design of the winding mechanism.

Pam 627 and Pam 628...both with hobnail dial...

Pam 657 and Pam 658...both with tuxedo dial...

Both the 627 and 657 have the power reserve indicator at the backside while the 628 and 658 have the power indicator on the dials.

From 1st glimpse of the 662 and 663, I was going 'Yesssssssss... time to revisit Pams', but at 47 and 48mm, I think I will have to pass.
"Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence,
three times is enemy action and
over 600 is clearly the work of an ancient Sumerian demon or some sh*t

I am with you two gentlemen...its was big, then bigger and now biggest...

Its interesting that Panerai is now injecting more 1940 Radiomir casing and it looks to be the main focus for this year SIHH. The hobnail and tuxedo dials on the 1940 Radiomir really works...at least to my eyes and at 45mm (like previous p4000 Radiomir 1940), I can live with that.

Pumping in the Radiomir at 47mm (Pam 662) is quite a smart move to keep the 47mm case size alive as the wrist presence between a 47mm Radiomir vs 47mm Luminor is less intimidating without the big trademark crown guard. But injecting steroid into a classic 47mm case up to 48mm (Pam 663)...not too sure about that.

I wish that the 662 was at 45mm but even so, being a Special Edition, it would have a very long queue already even before its release...

While IWC is getting smaller in their new release of Pilot watches, PAMs are getting bigger.

IWC is getting slimmer to allow truer heritage with past pilot watch design elements. Wonder what Panerai is getting into.
                  The Lannisters send their regards.

Well, if we track back to Panerai true roots and heritage, they are indeed going towards that...BIG watches. All those 44mm Bettarini case or even the 44mm 1950 Luminor case (let's not even talk about the 40mm ones) was actually modern era Panerais targeting towards the civilian market when their contract with the Italian Navy was over.

Panerai was known to be producing massive watches with the classic 47mm Luminor and Radiomir cases for the Italian Navy and that one massive 60mm Egiziano for the Egyptian Navy.

Seems like the tropical brown dial is the 'IN' thing for the new releases, expect more models to come with tobacco dial and patina .

Panerai releases nice watches but not for me at 47mm sizes.

Pam361 is nice with sub sec dial but is it killing the pam634? I personally like dial with a moving sub sec, at least i know my watch is still moving.

Thank you Ryuden for the report

                            Doesn't really attract me much.
Looking at both radomir and luminor,I rather go for 587 or 372.
The brown dial looks like it's trying too hard.
But it's just me,maybe got to look at the actual piece.
