  • How often do you clean or wipe your Panerai watch?

Just wondering if any one here does clean their watch with the soft cloth before wearing? It could be due to water stain or sweat stain ...

I am doing it every few days and i get to see more minor hairline scratches coming out

Are you referring to the polishing cloth which comes with the watch? I don't use it and prefer to keep it unused like my original rubber and leather straps. I'm not sure if it's true but I've heard the cloth costs ~$50 if you get it from Panerai. If you use the cloth (or any other cloth), make sure you wash it regularly or else dirt trapped on it will cause scratches...

On an ad-hoc basis, I use tissue paper instead if I need to wipe away finger prints or dust. Every few weeks, I will use a damp cotton cloth to clean the watch and strap. Every few months, I will remove the straps and clean them thoroughly using method leather wipes ( http://www.soap.com/p/productname-216681 ). You can get them from Homefix DIY and cold storage. With the straps removed, I will use a tooth brush with liquid soap to clean the watch case properly.

And yes, i'm a clean freak (with probably OCD). I perspire quite easily so I tend to clean my watch quite reqularly.

I wipe down my watch crystal and polished parts of the case before I strap on my watch, for all my watches not just Pam. But yeah always wash the cloth regularly or the dust will scratch polished surfaces. Soft bristle tooth brush and water is good especially for watch bracelets. Leather straps I also clean and moisturize regularly with leather care products to keep them supple and to prolong their life span. I do that for all my leather stuff.

A bit of a clean freak when it comes to this...

Believe it or not ... I wash my PAM using dish detergent.

Use a bit dish detergent and mix with water, wash the watch without straps using a soft brush.

I also realise the more I wipe my watch, the more hairline scratches appear...

Now I just don't really bother liao, so long as it looks clean. Maybe will get it polished when I decide to send it in for servicing. Or maybe just switch out the bezel/crystal if it is not too expensive.

Same here. I either use "mama lemon" or hand wash liquid soap with an old tooth brush to clean the watch case. I'm a bit of a clean freak (to say the least)

Used the same mtd to clean my rolex sub and its metal bracelet.

                        How about those wearing everyday?
You wipe it daily as well?

I wear almost daily... For past 2 months, i really do not like wearing my other watches already.
                        Deeply poisoned. Haha

And those cleaning with detergent etc, u not worried if the chemicals or something might harm or scratch your Stainless steel?

Normally I will wash my Rollie with mild hand soap and tap dry with tissue papers, then wipe dry with dedicated micro fiber cloth solely for watches.
I will also use steel cleaner and polisher which THG gave me; it says Cartier watch cleaner, once every 2-3 months.
I will use leather cleaner to clean my Pam Strapes...

It's supposed to be stainless steel and watch companies use good grade at that, so it's supposed to be highly corrosion resistant. Chemicals that will not harm human skin found in soap etc should have no negative effect on steel as long as it is rinsed clean.

Though many will say the chemicals will kill the seals which in turn will compromise the watch' water resistance. I personally do not buy that though. I've showered with all my wacthes, even those with 50m WR rating for years, and none of my watches have ever had corrosion or water intrusion due to failed seals.

So don't worry too much ?
