i was also considering 312 as my 1st Pam.that clean dial,automatic,date,44mm..etc
312 was out of stock then,SE offered the 359.thought of just taking a look since it didnt look good in the pic.
when i saw the actual pc,the orange dial attacted me so much & i ended up with the 359.
The more i look at it,the more i am loving it!
TS,its not about which models are popular, its the model u fall in love with when u put them on your wrist.
staring at pics alone wont help,go try it out.i took 5 trips to decide on the model!

312 was popular. Now, I think still somewhat popular but not as popular as before due to many newer models.
The reasons it was/is popular are, as I understand:
- it is among the first batch of PAMs that use the in-house movements
- it has a few popular features - 1950 case, sandwich dial, auto with 3-day PR, date
Does this model possess the true PAM DNA? No. Has it become a classic or iconic model of PAM? Doesn't look like it. In those senses it is not comparable to the iconic Rolex Submariner.Last edited by pegasi; 12-03-14, 11:54 AM.Watches are like potato chips - You never stop at one

DNA I have not much to comment, only simple example. My father does not look exactly like my grandfather, I does not look exactly like my father, my son does not look exactly like me, how can I say not my son, important we have the same DNA & family name.
As long have people say all Pam looks the same, this is positive remarks that all Pam most likely looks DNA. Regardless what movement, from ROLEX, JLC , ETA, IN HOUSE, etc etc.. The most important DNA for Pam the name PANERAI.. Of course new watch new looks new movement for future interest, if you like it why not, PANERAI always be PANERAI. The best part is people like to say aiya all Pam looks the same lah..
This is only from my point of view, if you have your own point of view, paiseh me..

Good luck in ur Pam hunt the 312 has always been a popular when it was the only in house and 1950 case with sandwich dial combination but with so many model now with similar combination one would be spoilt for choice"He could not just wear a watch. It had to be a Rolex." Ian Fleming, Casino Royale (1953)

I currently have the 351 and before that a 312. Initially i got the 312 as it was the PAM within reasonable budget and has all the goodies of the PAM line up so it seems getting all the dough. Shortly, I was bitten by the 351 gold hands and tobacco dial which was so "special" esp the gold hands. So I sold 312 n gotten the 351. Guess what, I missed the 312. It's the weight of the watch and also the simple black dial that has a form of uniqueness of it's own!!

351 weight is just nice, even though its titanum, it is not light, but surprisingly just nice and comfortable on the wrist
the tobacco dial adds to the vintage look and is very matching to the titanum case
the gold hands (which are genuine gold) adds to the vintage classic look
good choice!

I don't think the 312 was very popular now. It is a good watch by no means.
I feel it is just that SGristi's taste has gone up market so 312 has kind of lost a bit of its shine...
I feel the more popular Pam among SGristi now are 372, 233, 270..
