  • Buying a pre owned PAM that has only the wooden box

    Dear all

Can someone pls advise me if it is ok to buy a used PAM that only comes with the wooden box and all the papers are sill intact?

I was told that buying a PAM without the 3 original box would see its value dropped significantly when I want to sell it in the future.

The watch in question is a panerai submersible 1000.

Kindly advise as this is my first PAM

According to a used watch shop that sell Pam, the different could be a few thousand. How true is this statement?

I do not think there is logical sense for one to charge extra for the outer cardboard box. The logic if we look at it is that
Having the cardboard box just means either that the wooden box is Place in a protective shell denoting the condition of the box and watch is well kept and hence seller can assure buyer of that the watch is in good condition and hence hold value. But at the end of the day it is still the wooden box and the watch condition that determine the price. If the box and watch is in poor condition
Having the outer cardboard is irrelevant. To me it is more of sales gimmick employed by sellers to prevent low balling.

There's a difference between buyers' and sellers' mentality. Sellers are usually looking to sell at the best possible price and buyers looking for a good bargain. They will use whatever reason they can find to put a price on the watch. There's no right or wrong because in the end, its a transaction between 2 willing parties.

I will consider if that particular watch is readily available on the market. If there are plenty on the market, you get more choices and those with complete package might have an advatage given everything else is equal. On the other hand, if its a vintage Panerai which I really want, I'll be more than happy to grab it if the price is right and proven authentic.

Of course it didn't made sense but has anyone verified the claim yet?

A few thousand dollars? So then a base PAM without the cardboard boxes is almost free? Awesome!

I would think having the complete triple box does add value to the watch as a whole..since the cardboard box is serialised to the same watch..it's nice as a collection..

It is not a show stopper without the 'milo' carton box. Ya really! If you buy milo by carton, they gave you the carton box. same color

Woodbox and blackbox is necessary to me. it's part of the beauty and package of buying a panerai mah

Yes, especially if you are a collector.

Think the wooden box & cert are the most important factors here. I am cool if it comes without the brown & black boxes.
