  • Recommendation for Seamaster

    Good day all,

I am hoping someone can help me out since i do not know much about omega watches. I am planning to get my first omega in my life, I am thinking of getting a seamaster planet ocean, I am aware there are two models? 2500 and 8500? Can someone explain to me the difference please? I also don't know if I should get the 42mm or 45.5mm.

Also, how will the retail price range? My budget is around 4-5k. I do not mind second hand piece as long as I can get it accredited.

    Thank you!

    Cheers,
    Aaron

May be a struggle to get a current model brand new at that price. But if you aren't too picky, mint condition pieces are available used in your price range. Do you need a 42mm or a larger face. some models have the XL version. as for the movement calibre - it is your first Omega ... get the one that fits your budget and "feel". I myself use a seamaster REF: 232.92.46.21.03.001

8500 series is the latest caliber and much more expensive ... will not fit into your budget. 2500 caliber is prior to 8500. Both calibers are co-axial. You may be able to find a 2500 caliber P.O. still in local AD. Saw one at THH in Peoples Park recently but in 42mm version black and white dial with black bezel ... the classic version. I own same one like that bought 4 years ago for about $4, 400 I think. I have 6.5inch wrist and it is just nice for me. My daily beater and still keeps pretty good and accurate time.

Go for a resale PO 2500. It's a very sturdy watch tat u can wear everyday. Change to a rubber strap if u want as the bracelet is quite heavy n the clasps get scratches easily.
          For $3k+, it's damn value for $.

Omega uses this coding 232.92.46.21.03.001 for the model, colour, movement and strap so it's their code for a Seamaster Planet Ocean Big Size (45.5mm) Titanium Case Blue Dial on a Blue rubber strap. BTW it is an 8500 caliber Co-axial. It's my 2nd and 1st automatic Omega - the first and still my daily wrist adornment is a Seamaster Professional Quartz 2264.50.00. - a classic that looks better every year.
