  • To repair Omega Speedmaster broken crown - (Help advise).

    Dear all,

I have a piece of Omega SPEEDMASTER BLACK CHRONO AUTOMATIC CAL.

Problem: Broken crown which does not allow me to adjust my time now.

Went back to swatch group and was quoted like 1.1k (ouch).

I was wondering any pros/bro/sis can advise other alternative watch repair / reputable shops?

Thank you for reading my and await for advise.

    Cheers
GMT Master ii TT swee !

Speedy Automatic Chronos are expensive to repair because IIRC, they are using some piggy-back mechanism movement, so it is more complicated to repair. As what the other bros suggests, try to repair at those watchmakers that they have mentioned, as Swatch tends to inflate their prices

Called Jw today , repair will take 5 - 6 months. Estimated just replace of crown will be around $350 but still have to see and check the watch for further problems / parts and etc.

Where did the watch break at the crown?
Do you mean the stem broke and left a part in the crown and the watch is now without crown?
Did the crown strip out of the crown tube?
If it's a broken stem then I think your problem can be a lot cheaper than $1.1k

post some pics if possible. IIRC Omega uses ETA stems and you may be able to just get a stem, buy a new crown from Cousinsuk or from Ofrei and have a watch guy cut the stem and replace it. Stem replacement is really easy. just open up the caseback and find the stem release button. then pull straight out, measure the stem and cut to size. start a bit long and shorten it a bit at a time. better yet if someone can tell you how long the stem needs to be that would be perfect. just put a dab of loctite when tightening the stem and crown together and wait for the loctite to cure. then you're basically good to go. pop the stem back in and enjoy the new stem.

if that's not your problem.. then i may have just wasted a few minutes of my time typing all this.. LOL
