  • Double AR Coating

    Hi,
i came across the term AR coating on watch forums.
    What is it actually?
any kind soul want to enlighten me?

    thanks

AR coating = Anti-Reflective coating on the sapphire crystal to reduce reflection and improve clarity

Double AR = AR coating on both inside and outside of the crystal

i think the AR coating adds a bit of personality to the watch.

the function is to reduce reflection, makes the glass invisible at certain angles

Typically, it is better to go for single coated AR -on the under side of the crystal as the AR coating is not the most scratch resistant stuff and reveals smudges easily. They do contribute to a tint of blue or green too. However, most of the times these days, it's double coated. A non AR just works as fine. AR is really something more relevant in lenses then watch crystals imho.
