I just checked this out the other day. Been eyeing this watch even though I know I wouldn't be able to buy it. The list price is $11,500... I casually inquired in watch store at Centrepoint... they quoted me 15% off... with extra 2% if cash basis. I also asked the same at IWC boutique in Ion - same list price with no discount. Personally, I wonder who would buy there when there are AD's within a few minutes walk from Ion.

I actually asked the IWC boutique exactly the same question before. Their answer is that they carry limited edition items which the AD don't and hence are able to command a premium. My guess is that their main profit are from these limited edition items. The rest of their normal watches are mainly sold to those who don't do homework (compare prices) or to those who trust only the IWC boutique. Just my 5-cents worth of views.

if you're after the port chrono, wait for the yacht club to hit the ad's shops. it's now available at iwc boutiques only. retailing at sgd19k. it's the same movement as the ingy chrono also with flyback. 45+mm. rubber straps and delpoyant buckle. the guy at the iwc shop was wiling to ofer 10% discount and throw in leather straps only.

sometimes customers have no choice but go to boutique and buy not many options left.

take for example those limited editions, boutique will usually get them first. and boutique will have the nicer serial numbers for some of the limited editions. as such, for customers who want those nicer serial number limited edition pieces, no choice but to head there.

certain AD may be allowed to sell limited edition ones but those stock they have, it has gone through the 'filter' process. so buyers can get discount compared to those boutique ones.

as for buying a Portuguese chrono or PR, buy the watch you like. try on the pieces first. then decide which piece suit you better.
