Why is the 3717 so popular?

It's very individual. Personally I feel it's way overpriced for a valjoux powered piece at sgd8500 rrp. Unless one can ge a very high discount then it's a different story. Otherwise, at that price, there are many other better options and some even with in-house movements as well.

Yeah, my usual discount is 4% lesser now as well.

IMHO, I reckon this is the time to look at other brands like jlc which I reckon is still offering pretty good discount. Last check, even boutique was offering at least 30% and additional international warranty of 2 years. But that was a year ago...
