Not true. There is silver dial spitfire 3717-02 & 3717-05. However the black dial is by far the more popular one.

I guess I have owned/sold almost all the IWC range till the BP & I do find the Chrono pretty cool for a casual watch. I probably wont wear it with my cufflinks, but if I am in jeans, it'll be a good choice. However, having said that, I do feel that it's overpriced & I bought it for the brand. Just the other day, I asked my AD on the new Mk17 (42mm) & she told me that all the stock is sold out & that's even before the real products arrive at the store. So it does say a lot about the brand's equity & consideration, good job on the marketing.
The only IWC I would buy is the Portuguese 7days (BP too big for me), I reckon it's still reasonably priced & it's an in-house movement watch. Other than that, I will put my money on Jager Lecoultre, Glashutte Original & less mainstream brands like Breguet or Blancpain.... if budget permits!!I rather push my Alfa Romeo than drive a BMW
Alfa 1.5 Sprint
Alfa 33
Alfa 147
Alfa GT
Alfa Spider 3.2 V6- now
Alfa 4C- maybe next time

Here's my take.
One of the prime reasons I got it is cos of the brand. I've always anted an ic and that one appealed to me.
Secondly, I find the watch to be pretty versatile. I use it as a casual piece as well as for work. It's one I use with long sleves but not with French cuffs. It's just not big and thick enuf to hack it for me.
Thirdly, I thought it was rather affordable at sgd4980. it was even cheaper than my wife's Chanel 2.55 handbag!
Fourth, I am rather pleased with it's affordable reliability. Being an eta/valjoux movement, it is pretty much tried and tested. In fact, I've tested it alongside my two other valjoux pieces and it's actually got an additional 2 hours of power reserve.I don't have enuf watches but I will stop buying now!

Likewise, many people in this forum who spend thousands on watches know what they are getting and are happy with their choices. Horology is not always the most important thing when we buy a watch, and value of a watch does not derive solely from value of the movement. "Expensive" and "over-price" is relative. Who is to say that a 5K watch with ETA movement is over-priced and a 10K/20K watch with in-house movement is not? Do most people who buy watches with in-house movement actually understand how different is that particular movement vs an ETA?
I am of the same opinion that a PAM with ETA 6497 based movement is over-priced, but I have had serveral of them - coz there is something in PAM that you can't have in other watches.
I suspect many members here are as stupid as me and probably have one or two over-priced ETA watches in their collection. But then again, the poors don't buy over-priced products do they?
Oh ya, by the way, I am getting a 3717 soon as my hack watch.
Value is pretty much dependent on the buyer's perception. The eta/valjoux is tried and tested. And IMHO, more reliable then some inhouse movements in their infancy stages.
The oris and brietling models are not that overpriced compared to those offered by hubot. But those who like hublot would argue that it's worth every penny cos of the material they use for their casings. Actually pretty much the same argument I had with my wife on why her Chanel 2.55 should cost ,ore than my 3717. 3 years on, we have still not reached an agreeable conclusion but that's another can of worms altogether.
I was actually eyeing on the dssd until I saw the oris prodiver chrono, which IMHO offered me a better value proposition.
In a nutshell, to each his own.
Horology is a journey. Much like appreciating wine. As you get more into it, you'll grow and hunt for something different. I am nothing but just a novice inn both wine and watches...
Let's get back on track folks.I don't have enuf watches but I will stop buying now!

I thought we pretty much summed up the reasons why 3717 is popular.
What about its successor the 3777? Do the bros out there feel it will fare better? Let's do a "3717 vs 3777 which one do you like better"?Watches are like potato chips - You never stop at one
