  • Worth Getting a U-boat?

I am tempted to revisit a u-boat again. Liked the Chrono 50mm.

    liked this piece

Worth getting? PVD or stainless steel ? coz PVD can get scratched.

But the price is quite steep add a little can get a rolli liao or a PAM base 2nd Hand. Any advice?

    Or any bro here selling?

To me, I THINK that U-boat is using an interesting strategy,

To me, watches are classified into 3 categories

      1) Entry level - 1K to 4K
      2) High-end 4K to 13K
      3) Luxurious level 13K and above.

I understand that they are using submarine alloy to produce the watches but
their history isn't really that vivid nor epic to start with and yet they are already hitting into the high end category.

This is my opinion, the rest is up to you.
      Wish List

Tag Heuer - Carrera Automatic Chronograph Tachymetre
Maurice Lacroix - Pontos Dcentrique GMT
Baume & Mercier - Classima Executives Contemporary
Ball Watch Company- Engineer Master II Diver TMT, Fireman Night Train, Fireman Skylab
Zenith - Chronomaster Open Grande Date
      Bell & Ross - BR 03-92 Carbon
      Longines - Evidenza Automatic
Omega - Seamaster Planet Ocean Big Size, Speedmaster professional
      Tissot - T-Touch Polished Titanium
And too many others to mention...

Luckily, nothing to do with Veneral Disease.

It's a blackish coloured coating on some watches.

It's a coating used initially for tools to increase life and productivity.PVD coatings reduce wear and downtime due to tool replacement.

On the subject of U-boat, heard that there are still some ADs selling the mineral class version, rather than the sapphire glass.. how can we tell.. especially if we are buying pre-owned?

              simple...3 ways to know

use your fingernail to tap the glass...mineral glass "softer" while sapphire is "louder" (sounds like chinking of wine glasses".

on the dial..if it's "IFO"..it's mineral... if they spell the whole name "Italo something"...it's sapphire...

lastly, if the reference number of the watch ends with alpha "Z"....it's sapphire...without "Z" it's mineral..

              cheers

Or you wanna try water drop test to check sapphire or mineral

drop water on the surface. If mineral, it spreads out, if sapphire, it beads up. Different surface tension

sorry..for point 1>> it's "softer" for sapphire and "louder" for mineral glass...my bad....sapphire glass is "thicker" than mineral glass hence it's "softer" when you tap it with your fingernails...

Hmm... PVD would get scratched easily.

I am contemplating buying overseas. discount overseas are close to 30% compared to the local AD even with 10-15% discount its close to the list price. factoring in the GST.

                      anyone bought from overseas?

take a look at the thickness of the glass, if theres a GREEN tinge, that means its mineral glass. haha but not the bright green like GV milgauss.
My friend who is interested in WW2 history was disgusted that the name U Boat is actually a GERMAN submarine but its actually made in Italy. talk abt tracing its roots....

Dont think u can get it cheaper in Downunder. In europe actually the brand is not popular.

Considering getting from US. but US $ moved up abit so a bit the saving is not as great as in Feb period.
