  • JLC Master Chrono or AP Royal Oak Date

Anyone bought a Jaeger Le Coultre master control chronograph recently and can share how it is?

Went to a local AD and found this model to be really nice. Is 25% a good discount or can it go higher, if yes whats the highest? No need to list the AD just wanna ask only.

Been considering this and an AP royal oak date model... this one looks like more value and the is more "weight" in the watch, something that I like. Currently own an explorer ii and think this would be a nice alternative cos AP is a little similar ...

What are some of your suggestions?

A little more active again as I m searching for the "next" one... haiz... really hard to sustain this hobby.
    Currently own:
Rolex Explorer 2 Black Dial 16570
    Rolex Precision 6694 (Manual winding)
    Blue Dial/Silver Markers
    Seiko SNZG15K1
Ball EMII Diver green inner bezel!
    Stowa Marine Original (White dial)

    Wishlist:
    Luminor Marina 1950 3 Days Automatic PAM 392 42mm

    (gone and missing them)
    Omega Seamaster 2254.50
    Breitling Colt GMT (Black dial)

i wont suggest you a JLC unless you aboslutely love the brand and no intention of selling. this is because once you buy it on the spot regardless of the discount, you stand to lose easily another 20% the moment you want to sell it.

as for discount, different customers get different type of discount.

if you want to get a AP, likely lose another 20% if want to sell. if you buy the ROO series, chances of resale value is slightly better. than again, if you notice, models such as scuba, have low resale value. only selected models of the ROO series will retain value better.

You lose 20% the moment you walk out of AD. Regardless of brands or model...

well, it seems like both are not really advisable then. Really like the AP Royal Oak but for the fact it beats 21600/3hz, something i dont like. I prefer 28800 and above, dont know why and also for that price i would actually like some form of a complication on a watch. Looks like its more rolex for you guys i think...

A pity, the rolex are getting too big for my wrists now... my wrist less then 6 inch... thats why chose and explorer ii in the first place. The JLC chrono is also pretty acceptable size ...

thanks for the input though, would consider.

Another question, any other models you guys recommend for a 6inch wrist that does not look too out of place? I dont really like it to be too huge. 10k budget should be it

AP Royal oak is nice. 15300.
Prefer this than 15202. But both over 10k.

Look wise JLC looks more modern and sporty.

AP RO prestige/ heritage. JLC cool factor.

10k. Date just, turn-o-graph. GO panomatic?

            Bro Fengy,
If you're looking for something relatively prestigious, not too showy and not too big, you're in luck, a lot of good choices can be got below 10K, especially when you don't mind used pieces:
            1. G.O Senator Sixties (39mm on black dial, very nice!), got a bro selling at 'the other forum' a silver dial version for $5.7k
            2. Blancpain Lemans (40mm, its both classy and sporty at the same time, Bro Sandisk selling one)
            3. Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chrono (older version with military dial at 40mm, Bro Sandisk also selling at about 10k, hehe!)

But looking at your wish list, why not push your budget up a little and get a used PP Aquanaut 5065? A used one these days go for about 14-15k but its slightly smaller at 38mm; still that means that you can share the piece with your wife, kill two birds with one stone! Time to get a refund for the lemon Cartier, haha!
            Sweet 16:
            PP Aquanaut
            VC Overseas
            AP ROO Black Themes
            A.Lange & Sohne 1815
            Breguet Type XXI
            Blancpain 50 Fathoms
            JLC Navy Seals
            GO Senator 60s
            GP Laureato
            Zenith Pilot Extra Special
            Rolex DSSD
            IWC Big Pilot
            Pam 112
            Omega Ploprof
            Breitling Super Avenger
            Glycine F104

Bro if your wrist is less than 6 inch, may I suggest that you go for a used AP Royal Oak mid sized. These mid sized Royal Oaks are only 33mm, quite suitable for your wrist size. I actually have a pair of these mid sized Royal Oaks and they are really value for money and u can get them under 10k depending on the watch material.

Pity my wrists small, super limited watches. The GO sixties sounds like a good consideration
Mid sized AP is prob a tad too small, and even more similar to my explorer ii.
PP aquanaut? Actually if PP I would prefer a nautilus but seriously outta budget. Let me check on those u guys have recommended and yea, keep the suggestions coming really appreciate it. Want something thats versatile both a littl classy while yet not too out of place with informal attire, that's why I saw the JLC chrono as one of my choices.

Hmm must be able inter-changeable with informal attire? Actually I see your small wrists size as the ideal for wearing super dressy watches!!!

Haha was actually going to suggest that you consider a Patek 3854 or 3820. With you budget you can probably get a solid gold one on leather strap. Heres a pic of a Patek 3854 I got, its Octoganal shaped 29x29mm. Next to it is my 36mm Grand Seiko for size comparison.

That's another problem with lemon watches, kena go back to the shop again and again to be poisoned. ha ha...

Good luck on your new watch hunt.... since the RO is on your wishlist, shouldn't you fulfil that first? Toffeethings suggestion of VC overseas or the GO is a good idea too. I suggest you sit on the JLC for awhile, and if you still like it then go for it.

                    @Kqxrluvspeedmasters - very nice PP.
