  • Titanium watch

Titano is known to be prone to scratches than ss.

Main reason why I never have one.

    Been thinking of one lately.

Like the titanium seiko samurai. Harder to come by nowadays.
Pam 177 351 nice but bo lui.

    Any other suggestions?
    More on the budget range.

I'd recently sold off a Hamilton ti watch. I think it's nice and value-for-money. I can't recall the actual model but it's something like field khaki or something.

Steinhart casing and bracelet is not totally made of titanium material. Its actually SS base with DLC coating that can tahan most light scratches wihtout exposing the SS base, hence quite tough material. U can do a searchon wiki for the DLC properties. So far, no other owners had any problems with this material. If there is, Steinhart DLC divers would not be selling like hot cakes liao.

The Seiko u saw i posted, is TiCN coating, which in a certain way is titanium coating. How good it is, i have no idea. I believe it looses out to DLC.

                  TiCN? maybe its titanium carbide.

PVD n DLC are similar. I believe the quality of coating matters too.
Seen pictures of Sinn PVD watch seeing the base metal of the bracelet.

DLC stick to the metal surface well. But kena knock, still dents.
Only as hard as the base metal, as seen on Cartier santos DLC.

So I will avoid higher range of coated watch.
Even if i can afford, I will avoid higher range of carbon case (horror of AP),
ceramic watch (scratch chip finished), composite watch (horror of Pam).

Metal scratch just bua bua still can tahan.

Ohhh...all the while i thought that PVD refers to the treatment process while DLC refers to the type of material used in the treatment process...

Maybe i salah most of the while... heheheh

you are right. pvd is a process. DLC is coating material.

just that to me in watch industry when they say PVD, its usually some nitride or something coating, not DLC.

When its DLC, they make sure they say DLC.

                      maybe i salah also hehe.

OT: nowadays they started using silicon (same as breast implant) instead of silicium (sounds more high class)
