Auto ETA = 25 Jewels (more resistant to wear and tear), accuracy may be less accurate than manual.
Manual winding = 17 Jewels, (less resistant to wear and tear), accuracy is there but need to wind daily which over the long run might cause the crown and gears to wear and tear which need servicing.
Most of my watches are ETA auto. Manual too troublesome. But of course as for the size 42mm or 45mm, it depend on the person wrist. Just personal opinion. :-0 Cheers

I guess it also depend whether you intend to be serious in collecting pilot watches, if yes no doubt will be manual wind. In olden days no ETA right (correct me if i'm wrong) . For me I collect whatever my head & heart & wallet tells me to. But don't forget it is the neck(wife) that turns the head :P.

Congratulations on your acqusition Bro Ocean! Doesn't matter if it is new or used. As Dr. Bernard Cheong once said, "Buy new, buy used but always buy you!"
The 45mm looks a tad large (as it should) but awesome on your wrist. Now you just have to grow some hair, hahaha! (Just kidding, no offence intended!)Sweet 16:

I was hesitating if I should get it at 45/42mm due to my slim (non-hairy) wrist. I was fortunate enough to get to try the 45mm out before I decide and it fits well. Then it was about getting it new/pre-owned but what the hack. The 45mm was right in front of me there & then; watch condition is terrific; price is reasonable and seller is marvelously friendly. So here it is
Tx to all who had given me the advice
