  • Cartier Santos 100XL

    Dear Bros, Sis,

    I need your advice.

I recently bought a santos 100 XL from ebay and had received the watch.

Outlook is good but buckle is hard to clasp on due to an OEM leather strap which prevents the 2nd lock to fit in.

Worst is when i shake the watch, i CAN hear the mechanism, even i shake it like 50cm away!!!! This worries me very much and I cant help but to think that it's a FAKE!!!!

Can anyone advice me if the mechanism of such a great watch be so rough? Even though its not serviced, i dont think that this shd be the case. Btw, the watch is 2years old according to papers.

Have you considered to try and send it in to Richemont for servicing? I know they do not authenticate watches anymore but getting your watch checked and serviced should be no problem.

For Cartier, the leather strap is folded. So if the strap is new, you will need to press it flat properly or the clasp won't close properly.

It is normal that you can hear the rotor sound. Most brands are not silent like Rolex.

Most important is the quality of the case, clasp. If in doubt can feel one at the boutique to compare.

Better if you can post some detail pictures.

        Hi,

Thanks for the advice. I sure hope some oiling and servicing can do the trick.

          Hi,

I do understand that some rotors are audible but the sound is really rough type and able to hear it even when i shake it at arm's length makes me worry.

Can a 2yr old watch be so rough?

Also, there is a small "Cartier" word at the roman numeric "7", which I cant find it at pics I get from Goggle.

Besides opening it up, any distinctive features that I can tell it's real or fake?

I try the water test on the crystal and it does beads up. So, I may be able to cfm that its sapphire........

OIC, Tks for the feedback. How about the winding up mechanism? Is it loud as I had described when shaked back and forth?

Hmmm...depends on how loud is loud. Got a bit of clicking sound but hardly noticeable.

bro just bring it to RSC tell them timing gain/loss too much time...they will look into your watch. bro it's not difficult to just make time for a trip to the RSC and get it all sorted out once and for all..

if anything you can act fast, esp if it's a rep you can quickly report to the bay. Follow emailing to the seller, demand full refund etc etc...

how much did you pay for this? did it come with proper papers e.g. warranty card?
i don't mean to scare you, but i have a suspicion that this might not be the real deal.

best thing to do is to bring it down to Richemont service centre to have it checked out, although i've heard that since 1st Nov, Richemont will not provide any authentication service for watches. anyway, they're not open during the weekend, so you might want to try bringing it to JW.

i've seen a santos replica that comes complete with the box packaging, booklets and DVD.
to my knowledge, one way to tell is the spacing between the "X" and "XI" markers on the dial. the genuine one has the markers very close together, while the replica one has a more noticable gap between the two markers.

see these pics of other santos 100xl, and compare it with the smun's one:
