AUDI DESIGN - Where From und Funktion unite
Audi Design A3 Sportsback
Everyone who knows Audi is aware of the attention we pay to innovations and cutting-edge technologies. However, Audi is also a way of life, it is a whole world (for some insane chaps on this forum :laugh). Guided by this, Audi have created four exquisite Audi Collections, each with its own charm and character.
(i) Audi Collection Design
(ii) Audi Collection Sport
(iii) Authentic Collection
(iv) Tradition Collection
Each collection is different. However, these collections have one thing in common - they embody Audi's commitment to quality and attention to the smallest details.
Audi Collection includes a watch range
It is about the feeling and the form, be it work or leisure. It must be dynamic and active.
It must have quality standards that are second to none and strike us by their harmonious timeless lines and innovative technical solutions.
Purveyors of superfine craftsmanship and appreciators of outstanding execution will love the combination of these facts. It is not just about dotting the 'i' and crossing the 't' - it must transcend that and go beyond the perfunctory call of duty. You must dot and cross in style, elegance and sophistication. Distilled down to the bare bones in German that would be the epitome of the ultimate truth of "Form und Funktion".
Audi is exceedingly clever in offering these products and these sophisticated lifestyle articles successfully the company's design image, design language and philosophy from the world of cars into other product domains.
It is precisely these reasons that empowered one to lust for the quest of the next chapter in timekeeping offered by the Audi Collection.
The Audi Design Square Chronograph by Sinn
High tech and progressive design - this is the combination that Audi design has applied to create an extraordinary watch project at its Studio for Concept Design in Munich (Konzept Design München). The Square Chronograph is the first masterpiece to emerge from the collaboration between Audi subsidiary, quattro GmbH, and Sinn Spezialuhren GmbH of Frankfurt am Main. The watch was released in 2004 and the retail price is $3750.00 Euros. The Exact reference number is: 110.04.001.00
Audi Design Collection Comprises of 4 watches
The Audi design watches actually comprise of 4 product offerings. The centrepiece of this collection is the Audi design Square Chronograph.
Audi design stands for the combination of cutting-edge technology and innovative design. The new collection of top-quality watches developed under the eye of Audi’s former Head of Design Walter de’Silva (and designer of the beautiful Audi A5 Coupe) is also true to this principle.
Pia von Braun is responsible for the Square Chronograph’s elegant face. “The basic idea was to design a square watch,” says the designer, and Artemis Karoussos, coordinatior of the “Product Concept” at the Munich studio, adds, “A square watch is very unusual in this price segment and at this level of technology”. In fact, square watches are found almost exclusively as jewellery items. However, the decision to design a watch suggested itself. “The high level of precision required, and not only in the measuring instruments,” explains Karoussos, “is the link between watches and cars”.
Audi Konzept Design in Munich - Where all the inspiration starts
Konzept Design
"Konzept Design München" was oficially opened (by Walter de'Silva, former Head of Design for the Audi brand group) in 2003. This studio develops creative concepts for the entire Audi brand group, in other words the Audi, Seat and Lamborghini brands, looking well ahead into the future.
The building, housing around 800 square metres of floor space, accommodates 20 workplaces for international designers, engineers and trend specialists, as well as some 15 modellers working on the vehicle concepts and designs of the brand group's future product generations.
An important area of work for the Audi "Konzept Design München" is Product Design, in addition to the areas Automotive Concept and Concept Innovation. The designers work here creating lifestyle articles such as watches, tie pins, key rings and even cycles to reflect the brand universes of Audi, Seat and Lamborghini.
Konzept Design München’s creative masterminds brought Sinn, the renowned manufacturer of specialist watches, on board for the Audi design Square Chronograph. This cooperation comes as no surprise. “Sinn and Audi are companies that have something to give each other,” says product designer Artemis Karoussos, explaining the thinking behind this joint venture. “Sinn is very interested in Audi design and Audi values Sinn’s quality standards and technological know-how in turn.” The Frankfurt am Main watch company has set itself the same goal as the Ingolstadt car manufacturer – the continuous further development of what is technologically possible with attention to the highest standards in design and quality. The Audi design Square Chronograph bears witness to the high technological standards of this cooperation and makes Audi design part of the team of true watchmakers.
Audi's Partner in construction - Sinn Spezialuhren
Audi has found a suitable partner in Sinn Spezialuhren, where the agenda includes the continuous further advancement of what is technically feasible in the art of the watchmaker. The owner & managing director of Sinn today is Mr Lothar Schmidt and Mr Schmidt previously designed watch cases and developed technologies for IWC in the early in his career. This explains the high-tech cutting edge elements that have transcended Sinn's company's culture right through to the present day. The history of the company began with the development and manufacture of instrument-like watches and on-board clocks with the highest levels of functionality, which satisfied the professional demands of pilots perfectly. Mr Schmidt himself drives an Audi A8 TDI with chip tuning done - TDI power!
