Personally, none of the watches from the three brands sings to me, perhaps maybe only the exception of the Royal Oak (I like classic watches).

But if I'm forced to choose one, it's gotta be the AP. It's not a member of the Holy Trinity for nothing.

      AP vs Hublot vs Delacour

hilfire: How's Hublot in your opinion? I saw a Big Bang ladies watch ($13k+ after discount), and really liked the design. Just wondering how it could fare against other brands like AP. But for AP, i could only perhaps get a Quartz for that price.

Not that Hublot is an inferior watch, in fact they are far from it. Now, Hublot is a relatively young brand and I do admire how Jean-Claude Biver single-handedly brought success to Hublot in such a short span of a few years. However, Hublot is behind AP in pretty much every way, resale, prestige, finishing, history, etc.

If you must get a Hublot, a preowned piece is a good start. As you gain more insight into the world of watches and watchmaking, your tastes will change. Unless you have extremely deep pockets, buying preowned will lessen your chance of being slaughtered big time in the resale market.

My advice is save up a bit more and get an AP. IMO, it's worth the premium over a Hublot.

Would pick AP out of the 3 then Hublot. Some of us still prefer clear & classic rather than those big chrono or big bang look. Argh, why get quartz when paying for these brands? I have both AP & Hublot and they are reliable watches.

So far services are free because still under warrenty and very happy with quality of service. Maintenance services so far as no repair work required. They even replace gasket during my last service. Trick is to service again just prior warrenty expiring so get at least 2 years extra of no need to service.

As mentioned by Carz, AP is a haute horlogerie brand so no point getting a quartz unless it's for a lady.

what I know of for AP quartz watch, go and change the battery before it runs flat.
otherwise, you will have to pay for servicing (to check whether battery leak or not).

2-3 yrs I reckon, change battery takes you a 30-minute wait so just enjoy the free coffee there!
I think it was around $800 (service + battery change + 1 FOC battery change), don't remember it well as was accompanying a friend there.

Honestly i would not consider Quartz for such a price. I am in the electronic components industry, i certainly know the BOM cost of the PCB, components and the little battery. However that's me.

bluefire: u have a point... i feel it makes more sense and worth to buy the automatic. What are ur views on Hublot automatic watches (ie: big bang)?
