Resale value

I always pay attention to resale value when I buy, although it does not necessarily mean I will sell any of the watches I have acquired (have not sold any). That is also why I will probably stick to 'mainstream' brands such as Rolex, JLC, Omega, etc. instead of more exotic brands. I know I will lose some money overall, but I believe there is a residual value somewhere.

Watches of diff brands usualli holds a % of the its first hand value..Rolex being the champ of the lot..Understanding the meaning of % is impt as wat it realli means in the real world...The more EX the watch u gg to buy..the MORE $$$ u will lose when u sell..jus my thoughts hahahz

I thought of buying a SSDJ because of its resale value. I didn't really like nor dislike the SSDJ though. A new SSDJ would cost me around $7k. If I were to sell it, I think a conservative price would be around $4k. Meaning to say that I lose $3k. Hmm.. I paid upfront $7k for the SSDJ...
I was doing my window shopping on 1 of those weekend when a Ball Racer caught my eyes. My, from then on the image of the Ball Racer keeeeep appearing in my mind and within the next 7 days, there it is in my house and admiring it. I don't know what will the resale value(was never on my mind when I bought this watch) of this BAll watch be but I do know that I will not be as happy having another watch other than this one and more inportantly I bought it because I like it and not because of its resale value. Here I paid upfront $3.78k and I spent it most willingly!!!
My questions are :
1.Does resale value really matter when you are buying something you like for yourself?
2.Do you buy something you like just to sell it off later?
My 2 cents worth of advice for all the watch lovers out there: If you like it, then go ahead and get it. Forget about the resale value thing. You bought it just for a simple reason: Because you love it!!!
Alternatively, you can also look into the second hand market and get one in good condition with papers and stuff. But usually in the forums/2nd hand shop ball is not easily found like Rolex/Tag etc. So in the end its up to you whether you would like to wait for it to appear in the used market or just get it first hand if you really like it.
For me i am lucky enough to get my Older Gen EM Diver II thru the forum at around half the price from retail. XP
