  • Resale value

    Dear BAll readers,

Just like to share with you regarding the topic:Resale value of watches.

I thought of buying a SSDJ because of its resale value. I didn't really like nor dislike the SSDJ though. A new SSDJ would cost me around $7k. If I were to sell it, I think a conservative price would be around $4k. Meaning to say that I lose $3k. Hmm.. I paid upfront $7k for the SSDJ...

I was doing my window shopping on 1 of those weekend when a Ball Racer caught my eyes. My, from then on the image of the Ball Racer keeeeep appearing in my mind and within the next 7 days, there it is in my house and admiring it. I don't know what will the resale value(was never on my mind when I bought this watch) of this BAll watch be but I do know that I will not be as happy having another watch other than this one and more inportantly I bought it because I like it and not because of its resale value. Here I paid upfront $3.78k and I spent it most willingly!!!

    My questions are :
1.Does resale value really matter when you are buying something you like for yourself?
2.Do you buy something you like just to sell it off later?

My 2 cents worth of advice for all the watch lovers out there: If you like it, then go ahead and get it. Forget about the resale value thing. You bought it just for a simple reason: Because you love it!!!

It will matter to me...it's one of the factors I consider...very impt factor after the fact that I like it very much.

I bought my first rolex submariner is because I love it.
After I bought my sub, I bought other rolex sport models due to their resale value retention.
Recently, I bought a Franck muller because I love it... again...

Generally i think for most Ball watches u can expect to sell it at about 40% of it's resale value ?

I think you get a second hand ball watch then you won't lose much.

What is SSDJ? Sound like Rolex model to me. I think ball resale at 40% is too conservative. I would say somewhere between 50-70% depending on model and time of purchase and sale.

The fireman model is quite value for $$ , and usually resale is abt 40% .

                      We fully agree with this.

If you like the watch, why bother about resales value.

i think for all watches regardless of brand, you lose money the moment you walk out of the shop with your new purchase. So buy only what you really like and want to keep. If not, be prepared to accept losses when selling off...
