Power reserve on automatic

Hi, my tag automatic is supposed to have a power reserve of 50 hours but after wearing for a few days, i realised the watch stops in the morning and that's like less than 12 hours. my wearing is normal, as in i dun go around swing my arms all the time.

is this normal or i should vigorously shake the watch for a while to charge up the reserve?

Hi Bro, is your watch a old watch maybe timeto do some servicing, maybe a broken spring... I had a simliar case on my tag...

you may want to try winding your Tag for 40-60times, to max up its power reserve.

I agree. If it is a few year old watch, you should send in for service. The oil might be drying up also.

You bought new doesn't mean it is not old. It might be sitting in the display case for awhile. Since it is still within warranty, you should bring it in for a check up, at least you will peace mind rather than not sure. As for serving time frame, you should check with your serving center. All the best.

No need to shake vigorously. I think it is a good practice to hand wind the watch 15 to 20 turns prior to wearing a watch that has stopped completely, assuming your automatic watch allows hand winding.

How long the PR lasts depends on how long you worn it each day and if the watch is wound enough each day to more than compensate the consumption of power. If the watch is worn for say, only 4 to 5 hrs a day, there is a good chance that it will stop after a couple of days. If you had worn the watch everyday for at least 10 to 12 hrs with reasonable arm/wrist movement and yet it stop overnight after a few days, it could be either a sign of a faulty movement or servicing required.

I did have an experience where a new watch with automatic ETA movement stopped over night desipte I had hand wound it prior to wearing. I tried it many times and the same thing happened. Fortunately the watch was still under warranty so I sent it back for a check/repair. Eventually the movement was replaced and the manufacturer confirmed that it was faulty.

Just to add..

The time required to fully wind up an automatic watch by hand movement may be different for different movements.

While most movements have rotor that winds both way, some has rotor that winds in one direction. Whether that directly influences the time required to wind up a watch I am not sure, but by logic I think it does if all things else are equal.
