My photo-taking skills not so good. Anyway, for those keen to know how central asia looks like, here are some pictures that I took when I was there in Jul 07. I've not included any shots of wife and all her chiobu friends because of security reasons since we're on net. For those who has intentions to go there in future, you can PM me. I'll provide more info of the people and culture there
I've resized the pic so that they don't take up so much space. Mods, pls delete posts if inappropriate or occupying too much space
==========================================
Firstly, there's no direct flight from Singapore. The most convenient gateway to central asia is Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. Need to catch a flight from KLIA and the only airline flying there is Uzbek Airways
Hotels there start as cheap as US$15 to US$20 per night for cheapskate ones. Is considered expensive there already because average income of a teacher is US$20/mth. Govt doctors earning US$50/mth. I got this for US$40/night. Not bad lah. Got swimming pool
Rented this 1-room flat for US$100/mth. In the end when we left, I bought it at US$5000 from the landlord and gave it to my in-law to collect rent. Good passive revenue
To be continued...Last edited by minusplus; 11-01-08, 07:38 AM.Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die today. -James Dean

Common sight on the roads...Something we don't see locally...
Their city area. Our Orchard Road/Shenton Way equivalent...
The MRT, which costs US$0.50 for irregardless how many stops you travel. I hop in this one to avoid the afternoon heat, and had a great sleep there
Supermarket which we got ham and bacon... Our Cold Storage equivalent
Visited friends in Samarkand which is a few hours flight from Tashkent

hehe. It's a 1-rm flat nia. Super packed even for 2pax. Considering selling this one because my in-law says far from Kaz. See how la. House in Kaz also reasonable by local stds. A 3-bedroom condo with security and full facilities cost about US$75,000 in the southern citiesDream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die today. -James Dean

The last series is S.Kazakhstan, which shares a border with Uzbekistan. Beautiful country with lots of landscapes and breathtaking views. A pity that I had limited my stay to only 1mth then, so didn't really venture much. What you see are shots that I took on the 2hrs drive from Tashkent to a southern town of Kaz
Will check Kaz out again next mth. Applied for visa and booked tickets liao. Believe winter in Kaz will be a strong contrast to what we see here. Will show you guys again when I'm backLast edited by minusplus; 11-01-08, 07:53 AM.Dream as if you'll live forever. Live as if you'll die today. -James Dean

Wah you stayed there for 1 month.. hmm.. looks like you must be self employed or staying at home just collecting dividends eh??
Enjoy your trip there... if I ever have the opportunity, I will surely like to go there too..
