This morning the car is covered with a layer of ash. Now I know how it feel like to stay near a volcano.

was @ AMK hub this morning, the unity pharmacy had a queue of 50 people just for buying masks.
if you looking for the normal light blue/green color ones, you can try those neighbourhood shop selling household items. they might have.
sorry, i just left one of those shop, they had 10 packets left. 10 for 2.50.

mask is not the solution
first of all not all masks can filter out smog, which contains tiny particles of ash 0.3micron (if you dont know what is a micron, see your ruler smallest unit 1mm, divide that by 1,000)
only N95 grade can filter these
so if you get those cheap mask, its as good as useless
second, N95 mask is very uncomfortable to put on for long hours, and is not suitable for kids as the fit must be good in order for it to be effective
if you dont put it on properly with a tight fit, it is still as good as useless
so what is the best way to fight smog?
NEA's advise to stop all outdoor activities and to stay indoor is correct, but they fall short of telling you to close all windows and doors and to use HEPA air purifiers (not just any air purifier)
what good is it to stay indoors when all your windows are opened? again, that's as good as useless
the real way to fight smog is this - stay indoors, close all doors and windows tight - yes all of them
then turn on your aircon + HEPA air purifier (preferably one purifier per room depending on how big is your room) - must be HEPA
you will appreciate the clean air

seems like Agung Laksono's been sniffing in too much smog - see his comments in red

JAKARTA - Indonesia on Thursday accused Singapore of "behaving like a child" by complaining about severe haze from raging forest fires on Sumatra island that has cloaked the city-state.
"Singapore should not be behaving like a child and making all this noise," Agung Laksono, the minister who is coordinating Indonesia's response to the haze crisis, told reporters in Jakarta.
"This is not what the Indonesian nation wants, it is because of nature." The minister for people's welfare also said Jakarta would reject any offer of financial aid from Singapore unless it was a large amount.
"Unless (Singapore) wants to give us a large amount, we won't consider accepting it," he said. "If it is only half a million, or one million dollars, we don't need that. We would rather use our own national budget."
The comments came as the neighbours prepared to hold emergency talks in Jakarta to ease the severe smog enveloping the city-state.
