  • DIY Watch?

Anybody tried to make a DIY watch before?

Might sound a bit ambitious but rubbish here, but I'm actually quite interested to buy an old movement (and maybe other parts such as watch cases, but would rather make a dial myself if I have the time and maybe the "skills") and attempt to try to DIY a watch for myself. Not sure if anyone has got the experience to give guidance or advice?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

It's a good thing u start the ball rolling u wanted to know how to make a watch casing
As a start I was thinking of learning to disassemble a cheap mechanical watch
Any idea where to learn such skills?

I can make watch casing, because I've done something similar during Sec 1 and 2 when we were taught D and T... Just that it is not really well done(lack of practice) and I do not have the machinaries now....

Actually I'm rather more interested in the aspect of how to put the different parts of a watches together though. An online guide would be very helpful! Thanks!

There are online courses offered by Time Zone called the TZ Watch School. You have to buy a set of tools and kits including a stock movement for the course.

I have not attended it yet, it is one of the thing I would like to do when I can afford the time later on.

There are three different levels of classes. Basic oiling and cleaning is covered in Level 2 while Level 3 focus on regulation.

I have this aspiration too. But perhaps not in the near future. It's too complicated. Perhaps I would love to find if any watch dealers or repair shops willing to take me as an "intern" or a part time employee. (If anyone knows any lobang let me know!) Learn from some shi fu first. =)
