  • Blackberry 9900 battery life

I have read many reviews whereby the battery life for bb9900 isn't as great as it should be
Battery life being the problem here-- draining fast

Thinking of getting a bb9900...any advices that you guys can give with regards to this?

If you could do share the lifespan of the phone if you are using one

yup, battery life sucks, super light user, just checking emails, like once or twice a day and have to charge other day. i dont use any other function on the BB.
Don't trust anyone too much, even your own shadow leave you when you are in darkness.

I used it for 2 days, and I sold it off. Drained my battery like mad with high usage on whatsapp and smses only. Within a couple of hours I m dead on my batt.

I've been using a bb 9900 since Dec '11 (approx 1 year +). The battery life depends on your useage of the phone, i.e. number of apps running/version of OS.

Upgrading the OS is better for battery life as the stock OS isnt that great with battery life. I close/exit all apps completely as well as dim the lighting to the min. It can last slightly more than a day on such settings with frequent checking of msgs/email.

The battery is failing slightly past the 1 year mark (it will drop from 20% to 10% abruptly - one of the batt cells might be gone); but I think that's normal for lithium-ion batteries. Other than that, the bb can last most drops except for water.

        Hope it helps

btw, forget to add that one redeeming factor for the phone is the keyboard. it's really a pleasure to type on compared to other bb models.

It can last more than a day on standby. Especially if you put it in the leather case with the magnetic strip that allows it to hibernate (not the default case in the box, it's the leather pocket pouch).

Although mine is not a 9900, but my 2 9860 have bigger screen than 9900 and using same battery model JM-1.
Both my berries runs more than 2 days in a single charge, one with stock O.S 7.0, another just upgraded to 7.1.
My usage consist of average 3hrs surfing, and average of 30mins total of talk time perday.

                My settings:
Brightness, auto dim on, set @ 10% brightness, 10secs light out.
                Connection, GSM- 2G.
Bluetooth, and wifi activate upon use. Otherwise, both off.

I would suggest that you hold your gun. Wait for Z10 @ the end of this month, or early next month. Better specs. BIS/BES not necessary. Q10 with physical Qwerty keyboard much later.

Perhaps you might want to try checking on your syncing interval of your various apps? I never use those, but i believe the syncing interval can be tweaked?

I don't use BB but almost with all such hp battery life issues, the problem is not with the hardware/battery itself but rather the software, i.e. (mainly) the OS and sometimes the apps. How the OS and some apps run/behave during usage and standby, will to a great extent determine the battery consumption.

Usually if it is a SW issue that causes this and the problem is serious enough, the manufacturer would try to come out with new SW upgrade to try to reduce the problem but it is not always technically possible. So if yours is a well-know problem I suggest you keep a look out for SW fixes.

When i send one of my 9860 3wks ago to BB center @ Cathay for O.S upgrade, even the counter staff also told me that the highest send in rate of all BB device, falls on 9900. SW problem? ... very hard to say. But like what pegasi mentioned, certain apps and settings can be tweaked.

However to the TS, as mentioned, hold your horse, and wait for the BB10 device that's coming soon. For BB10, no BIS subscription needed.

Without the BIS subscription then can save quite a few dollars. Btw I saw mobile square at Far East plaza already has got the export set but priced quite high
