  • Why are some members so XXXXXXX lazy

I won't say I have gone to many watch forums, but most of them don't even provide user manual with screen shots to show its members step-by-step guide especially for advising members how to search, post images, etc.

Yet you see so many members coming in posting new threads asking for information where a simple search will possibly yield several threads for a start.

Then there are members who are simply so 'blind' that they don't even see Latest Announcement. Yes, I agree that some of the information is outdated, but hey! it even tell new members why cannot post and provide a link. Yet again, you see members starting new threads asking why cannot post?

In the Forum FAQ, there are so many threads with appropriate thread titles to at least give some hints. But why are these members not reading?

Maybe the Members Section should be place @ the top so that they don't miss them. At least they need to see that section first before others. Administration may want to take this as a feedback.

But then again which forum did that? I don't recall! It seems to be going against the norm.

Honestly, I feel that the moderators are doing a good job by combining all the threads with similiar content together. At least need to read just 1 thread and not like in some cases, more than 3 different threads. thumbs up to the moderators.

Maybe the administration can consider providing a youtube video to tell members especially new ones how to search, why are things as such. Then members must answer a Q&A, only when they pass, then can post.

Why are some members like that? Are they plain lazy or is it our education system that spoon feed them so much that they think when they expect people to give information when they need?

Any members want to shed some light why there are such members.

Because the mods/admin here are so helpful. Because the members here are so eager to share their knowledge (I am guilty of that too).

But I see that the mods/admin have stopped spoon-feeding such newbies when the info they are looking for is just a search away. I have stopped that too. It takes two hands to clap - so I think once we stop spoon-feeding, such lazy questions would become less.

I share your frustration, but I am not sure if these are all due to mere laziness. It does not take much effort to perform a search. Some of the info might not be available in this forum, but can be easily googled. It's hard to believe that people who are intelligent enough to use a forum do not know how to google to search for simple info like an address of a shop. Maybe some members just try to get involved in the forum by posting questions even when they know they can search for it themselves? Maybe the question is intended to start off a discussion? Or maybe it is simply to "chop mileage" in the forum? There are so many strange characters these days so who knows for sure?

Off topic a bit...another thing I find increasingly irritating is the regular questions and discusions about prices of watches. People come in here to find out AD prices, instead of asking the AD. People discuss about what is the right or good price to buy/sell, and what watches to invest in, as if this is a property forum.

Now I understand why some forums ban the discussion of prices.

This is supposed to be a hobby forum, but these days I smell $$$ more than I feel the appreciation of watches. We see less showcase threads, but more BNIB watches being sold by not commercial dealers but individual sellers for some quick bucks. Not saying right or wrong here, but just sharing how I now feel about a forum that I love...

I choose to look at it differently. Diff pple make up the world. Diff pple make up a country. Just as much the same, diff pple make up the forum. We all start a certain journey, a certain experience some where. I was once a newbie in this forum. I do make 'mistakes' at the start. Well maybe I was less smart; lack of ample knowledge/experience. But I was glad I wasn't condemned/criticized or even looked down on. So I learn as I go along.

Well said, bro. The obvious difference between you and me is already a proof of different people making up the world/country/forum. You are as kind and humble as always, and I, too critical. I am trying to change...so must learn from people like you.

Critical not always bad, sometime they are the hard truth. Different character but same passion here I would say.

Sharing information is what a forum is for. In fact, I think the forum should thank you and other members who share knowledge.

Maybe i should say that even if the member don't know and cannot be bothered to search is ok. I mean some threads if not in page 2 will be in page 3 or 4. Seriously, is it so hard just to scroll to page 3 and 4?

Understand that searching takes effort, but just browsing 2-3 pages also can't be bothered, I call that PLAIN LAZY

I agree with you that there are different types of people.

We all start somewhere I fully agree with you. But a simple scrolling of 2-3 pages also can't be bothered?

Looking for information in this forum, is quite easy. Unless it is not categorized properly, members don't search is understandable.

But is categorized properly. Dont search, is plain lazy

I will look at this from a more positive perspective. In the beginning when this forum was 'borned', there were lesser stuff, lesser info, lesser things in here to look forward to. The traffic was also much lighter here. So your current complaint/dismay may be more valid because there would be less pages to scroll, easier to find stuff in here.

However, as the forum grew and developed over time, more people come in, more info is churned, traffic picked up, etc. The forum became robust, colourful. A good sign. Naturally, the time needed to find stuff inside is longer, more tedious for some. I'm not saying that it has become untidy in any way. Rather, there are more threads with more information to tread around, to search for. I'm not saying this is any excuse for being lazy but for beginners/newbies, I'll probably give a bit of concession.

If information is in the first or second or third page, they cannnot be bothered, then if not call lazy to scroll and find, then is call what?

If the information is like one or 2 or even more years back, ok.

I usually give the benefit of the doubt that they are not exactly computer literate and know how forums work as well as some people.

I've met some people who told me SGROC was the first forum they have been to, and some of them don't surf the net as much as us. Have to be understanding sometimes but when they become over reliant on me, that's when I will take a step back.So I guess it's fine to ask a couple of basic questions at the start.
