I am starting to wear less of my watches recently . I don't know why. I have not lost the love (for watches) but more so, seem losing the love to spend money unnecessarily. Like some of you here, I seldom rely on my wrist watch for time, though I wear them frequently. I rely on other electronic gadgets mostly. The watch on my wrist is more a jewellery piece, an accessory for my attire

I don't know why I am behaving this way (on watches) but I reckon it's time to move on. I'll probably sell most of my watches soon ..

That is a good not bad thing bro. I am in a bit of a similar situation here...don't see myself spending 8k-10k for another watch anytime soon unless I offload some of my existing watches. Feel guilty of not wearing enough the watches I have, at the same time am saving for something else.

By the way does that mean you finally have time to meet up for lunch? You talk until my office moved to Jurong liao still haven't lunch...

          haha it's definitely a want.
it looks cool and helps in the overall dressing of a person.
not many accessories for man unlike woman.

          goes well with your shirt/specs/belt/shoes/car/pen

          definitely not a need.

          cheaper want than a car

I watched a youtube video made by Max Busser from MB&F and he said something which i think is very true, "since the 1970s we dont need a mechanical watch. We have quartz and our phones etc. The reason for mechanical watches is because it is a piece of art, an amazing craftsmanship."

=) Like what Jean Claude Biver says, watches are a communication tool.

A watch is a lifestyle accessory, you may not be using that to read time and most of the time you are glue to the smartphone for work , games or even to tell time.

I have seen a few ppl saying buying watches now is to pass on to children nx time. I assume u guys dun really mean it right? I mean its a plus to pass down but thats not really the main reason in ur mind wen buying right?

I duno how to admire vintage watches, wat if ur children also duno how to appreciatr older watches? Haha, think better let ur child choose n buy 1 brand new watch for your child when he/she graduates or hit some significant milestone (before he starts earning money)

This is just my humble opinion.
In my view, what do we men really have as accessories? Nothing much as compared to the ladies, i believe that's why we men turn to watches.
It is not only an accessory, it's a piece of jewellery. One that tells time and retains value. When we men parade our watches, its like the ladies flicking their hair to cause heads to turn on their new ring. If one is looking at telling 100% accurate time all the time then maybe looking for alternatives to tell time like hand phones/battery operated watches would work best. It's not all about flaunting but having functionality combined with investment value combined with it being a exquisitely designed piece of jewellery. Just my personal thoughts though.

YES! Everyday need to look at the beater on my wrist! Only once in a while onto my phone to tally on the accuracy...
But... to most of us, we don't just live with 1 beater till the rest of our days ahead. As days went by, get poisoned by looking at other folks possession, increase our "Watch Porn" desire, cannot loon, huntum again and again...collection grows and grow and grow in numbers... Until we ask ourselves again, Do I really need a watch?

I am always amused by the way mechanical movements are engineered and turned into a fine piece of art. And very accurate too. A really classic precision engineering.

I felt that indeed mobile phone had became a substitue for watch. However, watches are more symbolic and could have more meaning and history than a phone. Thus, watches will remain for good.
