  • Do you really need a watch?

I notice there are increasingly more people around me (especially men) that do not wear a watch. They use their mobile phone to tell time. I wonder if the overall demand for watches have declined significantly since mobile phone becomes a necessity for many people? Will watches become obsolete/irrelevant in time to come, like what happened to pocket watches? A pure accessory which one wears only for special occasions, or pure tool used only for certain sports or expedition?

Watch is here to stay as a fashion accessory and a convenient way to tell time.

Wrist watch evolved from pocket watch as a faster way to tell time.
One flick of wrist and you know. Much more convenient than taking out from pocket.

Phone serves the same time telling function but its like a pocket watch.
More movements just to tell time.

Really? If you would be out for a day and you could only have either your hand phone or watch, which would you choose?

if that said individual was never a watch-type of person, then he will be one of the most likely turn to mobile phones to tell the time since the rise of the digital age.
but for watch enthusiasts, watches never go out of fashion, and always necessary.

A recent report says that many smartphone users look at their phone a ridiculous number of time per hour (I don't remember the figure). So these people would not have an issue with "taking out" their phone to tell time as they are looking at the phone all the time

At least you guys are honest

I think this is how I behave - out of 10 times when I want to know the time,
                          - 3 times I would look at my phone
                          - 2 times I would look at the computer screen
                          - 2 times I would look at the clock in my car
                          - 2 times I would look at clocks in my house or around me, including the starhub set-top box

The 1 time I actually look at my watch, is mainly to admire it.
