  • Model, character or investment?

    Hi guys,

Just a discussion, do you guys buy a watch because you like the model or because your character is similar to the watch or for investment purposes?
Would like to hear some voices!

    Thanks for looking!

For me I buy what I like....but sometimes it's hard to resist the rationale side of your mind to buy for investment....a couple of subs which I bought for "investment", I sold them away cos simply don't fit my wrists well and someohow there's no connection

Always go back to pam and iwc

I think all factor play a part and eventually make you buy that particular watch. I am now aiming an OMega 2254 which I believe is elegant while at the same time have the investment value since its a discontinue model. But it's not easy to get a reasonable price one since a lot of seller inflated the price knowing its discountinue. I just need to be patience and slowly look out for a good deal.

similar to car although consideration is more towards practicality and usage but style and personality are critical factors .
Very true. For myself I believe the things I wear should first suit my personality and style before the investment value consideration kicks in. Mainly if I am not satisfied with my purchase, there is practically no point in owning it.

I buy what I like....but what I like depends on resale value too. For some that I like a lot, I might be willing to hack care resale.

share the same thinking as bro kuchingKu, i also buy what i fancy (sometime can be a tough choice, before making a Purchase i need to go to the watch boutiques n ADs try a few time then decide what to get.

never think so much about resale, i treat it as a reward for myself when i Purchase a new watch (need to work hard for $$$).

I buy according to the following:
                1) The brand. (it reflect the quality, reputation of company & the amount you willingly to part with.)
                2) The design. (those that give you the impulsiveness to get immediately but i give myself a few days to cool off. If still feeling the same, Mai Tu Liao...)
                3) Price (Realistically, can't afford a certain brand & complications. If eat grass after that, I will still give it a miss.)

I want to be master of the watches but not slave to it....haha.

But dont you guys think about the resale value at the back of your mind?
Many of my friends first consideration is about the resale value and how much it would depreciate rather than really loving the piece itself.

some of the members here are already in too deep to care about resale value. One cannot weigh the intrinsic value of owning a timepiece.

What's the fun of having a hobby if you put too much weightage on resale value?

Watch is always a reflection of your character and interest... resale value is a bonus...

Style comes first. Unless it's one of the top 3 brands, there is nothing much about investment to talk about.
