Well myself dived quite a lot and my equipment with all my underwater cameras etc cost a lot more than any S.Steel sports Rolex. The Rolex sports watches will take all the punishment sport wise you can give it and more. But 90% of all say dive watches bought today never see water except for perhaps a shower or dip in the pool.Today most Rolex watches get a very very pampered life indeed just don't know why they still call them sports watches. The days of the Rolex tool watch has long gone now to most, now they are just a bit of high price jewellery which is quite sad. Many don't even know how a simple time lapse bezel on the subs works, myself have used and abused Rolex watches for more years than I can remember. But that was when they was used as proper tool watches and not once did one ever let me down, but did loose one on a Red sea reef while filming a few years ago.

IMO, I think it is partly due to the ever increasing prices of ROLEX watches, or in fact, all other luxury watch brands, over the years. My friend bought an Explorer II (new) nearly 15 to 20 years at around $4K range. He, again, bought one (new) at $7K last week. Which piece, you think, will he enter a cave with?

Anyway, I feel that the ever price increase & the extorbitant servicing charges could be the main factors why Rolex sports model owners are reluctant to do sports with their watches.

Imagine a SubC now is RRP at abt $10-12k, few would wanna risk diving with it. And with servicing charges of $600-790 for sports models at RSC, if one were to service a Sub everytime after a dive, it would be very costly!

Too precious to wear a rolex to do the sports lah.

The closest is wearing it to the gym. Seen several guys wearing GMT IIC, Sub Date working out.

My heart skipped a beat each time they come in close contact with dumbells and barbells....over my dead body.

Well Rolex watches have always been expencive and dont forget wages say 20/30 years ago was not what you get today. And today its far easier to buy a Rolex so in real terms perhaps Rolex are cheaper to day, just cannot see why the price has to come into it.
