info for those who 1 to purchase a rolex from jp AD.
warranty card not issued immediate. need to reg. first. ( dunno if it's applicable at all AD ). i purchase at a dept store.

watch purchased: 23 dec 2007.
warranty card : filled up form & to be send to me.

recieve today ( abt 6 wks later. international card from rolex jp ).

back of the warranty have my name, purchase date & AD name.

i am going to japan end of this month .. thinking of getting my first rollie there if price is reasonable .. (explorer 2 w black dial or submariner w date)

anything that i should take note of buying in japan ??

LV, bought from Sogo dept store. bought at list ( Yen 600K nett. or abt S$8k ). after amex exchange abt 8.1k

Rolex can be purchase from Jp AD. Lots of departmental store = AD, those major dept like sogo, mitsukoshi, taka, isetan etc are AD ( not all their outlets )... these large dept store sure got tax refund 1, but no discount

than there's also other watch AD, maybe can ask for some discount. search rolex web for jp AD contact.

There's also other dealers, they might not be AD, but usually provide quite good pricing ( see beginning of thread for their web link ). Depending on their watch source, if it's not local jp pc, warranty card provided might be frm other countries, so reg. might not be necessary.

brand new explorer 2 or submariner, i think should be able to save min. 1 k from dealers compare to local sg discounted price. try to get a jp friend along

prices incl of 5% tax. so just divide price by 1.05

I'll be leaving for osaka mid of next week (hoping to buy a no.2). Pet was saying he got a LV there w/o discount ? Does it apply to ALL sports model because i thought LV was in demand then, therefore no discount.

You have to tell them you want to claim GST before you pay and show them your passport if I am not wrong. They will deduct 5% from your bill on the spot if I am not wrong.

If I were you...I would be happy if they just sell me at list man! Depends on the model I would say,some are worth it to buy there and some are not that. So do check and do some legwork here and in Jp.

hi newbie here... looking to buy a rolex in japan

when browsing the site of JackRoad, i realise that for the same model of rolex, they have (sometime) both local Japan set and Parellel Imported (PI) set. both BNIB. surprisingly the local Japan set is cheaper than the PI set by about SGD120!

which one should i buy? local japan or PI?

understand local japan i will not get the warranty card on the spot but only 6 weeks letter by mail, here of course got risk of not getting the card in the end. but at least I it is local set and have not changed hand so many times, and i will have all official papers and receipt

PI set mean i will get the card on the spot, but it is not as "official" as the local set.

what's ur take?

Any bros with opinions abt getting a DSSD in JP? Going there in 2 wks. I'm reserving my comments about how good / bad it looks, until I see for it myself in person. A pal of mine got it in Europe shortly after Basel... and he's non-stop talking about how good it looks. Anyone has an idea of the DSSD list price in SG?

The JPY went up against the SGD recently over the past weeks. I doubt this would help drive the prices down in Japan as they tend to be relatively cheaper if the JPY suddenly drops for a few days or couple weeks while the shops still have not adjusted. There are a couple of shops in Ueno station near where all the street stalls are....just walk around. There is Nisshindo and of course, Jack Road. Do a search.
