A little more facts for you this Sunday!

    71) The Ancient Egyptians are those who divided the day into two 12-hour periods, and used large obelisks to track the movement of the Sun. They also developed water clocks, which were probably first used in the Precinct of Amun-Re, and later outside Egypt as well; they were employed frequently by the Ancient Greeks, who called them clepsydrae.

    72) 200 points are lubricated in the Rolex caliber 4130 Chronograph movement.

    73) The first wristwatch for men was invented by Cartier. The famous jeweler created a watch for his friend Brazilian pilot Alberto Santos-Dumont. Thus the name ‘Santos’.

    74) To have your picture taken by the very first camera you would have had to sit still for 8 hours!

    75) In 1797, a tax was placed on clocks in Great Britain. The tax was five shillings.

    76) The Watchmaking Industry started in Geneva at around AD1587

    77) The 904L steel that Rolex uses is exclusive to Rolex in the jewelry industry. The only other industries that use this grade of steel are aerospace and medical.316L S.steel has 10-14% nickel content whereas 904L has 23-28% nickel, so it's hardly surprising that it's more corrosion resistant in sea water. But not very good for people with a nickel allergy though.

    78) 1908 was the year that one of the best known mechanical wristwatch brand names came into being – Rolex. By 1910, a Rolex made history as the first wristwatch to receive an official designation as a highly accurate timekeeper, a chronometer. Rolex developed an innovative way of manufacture that allowed that company to create the first waterproof and dust-proof watch, the Oyster, patenting it in 1926.

    79) It doesn’t take a year to make a Rolex watch. It’s just marketing hype!

    80) In AD885, Alfred the Great used candles as "clocks."
