"WCA PRESS RELEASE Friday 11th May 2012

The Federal Council of the WCA, which is the trade association supporting qualified watch and clockmakers in Australia, announces its endorsement of the "Save-the-Time" campaign against the restrictive supply of spare parts by some of the larger Swiss watch manufacturers.

This campaign highlights the current plight of independent watchmakers in Australia, and around the world, who are no longer able to obtain spare parts from major Swiss watch companies whose marketing practices cut savagely across the rights of watch owners to have them repaired by a watchmaker of their choice.

The WCA encourages all members to sign the petition and to seek further information by visiting the web pages listed below.

Interesting, hard to win this one though, but I fully understand the issue.

That said why SHOULD they have to sell the parst, do they KNOW the quality assurance standards of the maker?, are they trained, are they factory trained, do they offer warranty and compliance to standards, how to regulate all this.

Much Much grey area here.... !!

    more on petition:
The restriction on the supply of spare parts to independent retailers is resulting in the decline of the watch repair trade across Australia. This means:

You as a customer are forced to go back to the brand itself to have the watch repaired.
You must have the watch repaired under the terms dictated by the brand.
The brand may refuse to repair the watch if they consider it to be too old.
Work carried out may include replacements for which you have not asked, but must pay for.
Free competition no longer exists. Swiss watch brands are working to ensure that any repair work is carried out exclusively in their work shop, on their terms.
Taking full advantage of the monopoly of spare part supply, the repair costs of watch servicing has skyrocketed.

Looking at signature...... Are you Nicholas Hacko ?
