      Daily beater = Sub, GMT, EXP II (must have date la)

      Dive Watch = SD

      Dress Watch = Daytona, Datejust, Day Date, EXP 1

        My pick:
        Daily beater --> GMTIIC/Explorer II
        Dive Watch --> Green Sub
        Dress Watch --> Still looking.... possibly a Daytona S/S or IWS Portofino Eight Days. But for the time being, Green Sub does the job
        Casual Watch --> PAM111

          Yes, he sings praises of Lange and Patek but seriously not everyone can afford those.

          Quite surprised to see Daytona as a choice of dress watch. I always think its a little too sporty to be one.

            I'm happy to use the Cartiers or even the Meistersinger as my dress watch. The Rolexes and Pams do pretty well as daily beaters.

                Can Pams ever be considered dress watches?

                    Love watch snob in ask.men. Deliciously disgusting.

                    Not sure about catergorising watches into daily beater/dive/dress watches. But for every collector, a rolex sub and an omega speedmaster moonwatch is probably the archetypal core. As for a really high-end one, a PP would be v nice indeed. I can't afford, so my JLC reverso 976 does the job!

                      Here's mine rotation...

                      daily beater: explorer ii
                      casual: pam000 DLC
                      diver: PO 42mm
                      dress: still deciding, maybe getting the explorer 39mm to complete my explorer collection

Within each category, looking at only luxury watches, you can also classify into 3 price range - value (less than 10k), premium (10-20k) and super premium (above 20k). my pick for the category would be;

                          Daily beater - rolex sub, AP royal oak, Patek nautilus
                          Chronograph - omega speedmaster, rolex Daytona, AP offshore
                          Dress - IWC portofino, JLC master control, Lange Saxonia/Patek calatrava

                          Just my thoughts...
                          Just chanced upon this thread
                          Agree almost totally with the choices except jlc master control. Prefer jlc reverso or iwc portofino 8 day reserve

                          To me rolexes are sports watches. Haha

                            For me:
                            Daily beater/sports --> Sea Dweller 16600
                            Dress Watch --> Patek 5712/1A

                            But dream of:
                            Daily beater --> Patek 5712/1A
                            Sports Watch --> AP Royal Oak 15202
                            Dress Watch --> Patek 5070P or 5970P (both discontinued)

                                New method of categorising:

                                Daily beater (Yardwork)
                                Daily beater (Office wearer)
                                Weekend wearer
                                Sports/Diver/Chronograph
                                Travel watch
                                Dress

                                an excuse to have more than 3 watches hehe
