Watches are like potato chips - You never stop at one

Never political, seldom diplomatic, always honest

Let's keep the Japanese brands out of this discussion. So we don't end up with the "Seiko also in-house movement" arguement.

Asethetics is my priority while movement takes a back seat. You can say superficial/ shallow but that's me

Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak

Courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen

Very important until the first in-house movement servicing is required. Then when that breaks the bank due to the price gouging of most of the ADs, you really appreciate base ETA movements.

Ok, since I starts this poll I will set the assumptions.

              1. Let's talk swiss and german watches only.
              2. Modified ETA movements (such as 7750 used in IWC chronos) are considered as ETA movement in this poll.

I think you should set 2 qns.

First - Do you appreciate mechanical movement?
Second - If yes, ETA or in-house movement?

That's because, although all Seiko movements are considered in-house, majority of their watches are fitted with the low-cost mass produced movement that are being perceived by many as lower grade than ETA.

Hence in order to avoid going into debate of what is in-house or is in-house always better etc, I feel it's better to confine this poll to swiss/german watches.

I assumed most if not all members here appreciate mechanical movements.

What do you mean by "ETA movement with good workmanship"?

While the performance/function of a modified ETA movement may be enhanced, the same cannot be said for a "decorated" ETA movement, however good workmanship the decoration might appeared to be.

                            depends on the price.

if i am to pay more than 8k for a watch, i'd expect to have a full inhouse movement instead of ETA modified ones.

less than 8k, then brand equity/design/comfort comes more into play because at less than 8k, difficult to find watches with genuine inhouse movements.
