as i commute around with my small bike as my form of transport, i don't fancy big cars.. as long theres a roof and nice leather seat and can seat n protect my family of 3 from the rain, thats good enough.. at only 1.1L my 4 years old Korean city car has done a decent job by bringing us all the way up to north east of malaysia... with the current coe price , i will stick to my 4 years old korean city car at least another few years. maybe will consider to change another superbike for track purposes and hopefully to add another 1 or 2 rollie and a nice pam.

The depreciation of Cars are much higher than Watches.
Whereas watches tend to hold on or even appreciate in value.
Cars basic purpose is to commute yourself and your family around.
Watches basic purpose is to tell the time.
But ultimately is where ur passion lies is where you will spend your money.
When you walked to your car in the morning or when you looking at ur watch for the time.
Which puts a smile on your face?
I ve been more of a car person and am new to SG Roc.
I guess my liking might have changed.

i thought this is more to what a person are you. (practical or non-practical)
if practical = will choice nice watch (after purchase, no regret)
if practical = buy nice car (after some time sure to somehow regret)
person tends to be different in different stages of life, so if want drive big car, faster go drive and forget..
how many years can we more live to...diamond & sapphire glass are NOT friends!!

I'm sure we all want nice cars, including me... I am still tempted to upgrade.
I purchased my 3 series in 2006 when COE was only 8K but looking at COE prices now, I may drive it to 2016.
bear in mind buying a car in Singapore is one of the worst investment choices you can make, its a depreciating asset and you lose big time right down to the scrap value by the time it reaches its 10th year!
with Rollies, you still stand a chance ....My 18K Gold Day Date "President" Collection:

This is indeed a very interesting and relevant thread here! To me, I've to agree with the bro who mentioned that a car is a necessity and watches are luxury goods. And if you look closer at each of them, there are actually some studies that can be made into them too.
Everyone should know and understand the whole point behind depreciation + running cost when buying or owning the car. However, when I talk to some people out there, it's rather amazing that they often buy cars without understanding these. A car that looks damn presentable and luxurious, can be depreciating at the same rate or close to a bread & butter model. So, by knowing how much you can afford, and how much depreciation (plus running cost of course), you can then choose the "correct" car that will make you smile at the same time it is a transportation means to you.
As for watches, I believe that most of us are here because we believe that a watch atually represents and reflects its owner. Hence, we are willing to pay for those that catch our eyes. However, the natural phenomenon of having too little money for the unlimited wants that we have, most of the times we have to settle for essential pieces. For me, I have 1 that is versatile and presentable enough to wear for almost any ocassion. And then along the way, always on a look out to pick up some other more unique pieces when I have that spare cash to cure the constant itch. haha..
Cheers to all here and happy national day!
