my dad ask me to use mineral oil and change every 5k kms. so far no damage to engine. for me i just spend extra on the oils/spark plugs, and change as per logbook.

If you car is old, better to use thicker oil to protect the engine. Also, if you are changing your oil every 10km and you drive for long distance. Better to use thicker grade oil. If it is still new, you can use thinner grade oil (5W30). I myself using Motul and Mobil. These are proven in the market. What you pay is what you get although some brands got popular through aggressive marketing:-)

        Cheers

I was also being told that 5W-30 is more suitable for Latio, in fact, the manual specifically mentioned 5W-30 is preferable. I was only thinking from the point that 0W-40 is so-called more expensive than 5W-30 and I don't mind pay a bit more for better oil, so it oughts to be better, but seems like doesn't mean expensive is good. Confused...

Oils are oils, but there's still a difference. Engine oils are categorized into either group 1, 2,3, 4, or 5. fully synth are either 3, or 4, and 5 are ester based oil. You will definitely feel the diff when your car is non NA or high rev engines. Good oils or new oils will make your engines a lot more lively when u red line. Hav fun reading below.
