  • Care for watches

Just a quick poll. Do you guys keep your watches in mint and pristine conditions? My Pam was having scratches through daily wear and I felt like polishing it though I have it for like 6 months only.

Am I the only who feels like sending the watch for polish when there are only minor scratches?? Or should I polish it only when my scratches are accumulated.

Scratches are really inevitable when worn. I'm a very careful wearer but still the scratches come. I would polish it when it is due for servicing or it's really scratchy till my naked eyes can't take it. if u are going to wear it daily, the scratches will still come after the polishing.

I will only polish when servicing.

Not good to have extra material loss. After all if you wear, the scratches will come.

I have been advised to live with the scratches. Unless we put the watch in the box and don't wear it, scratches will appear after sometime. Last year, I bought a brand new Rolex Explorer, had quite a deep scratch after wearing it for a few days due to my own carelessness. I will send in for polishing after more visible scratches.

Cool. Thanks for the advice. Think I'll hold off the polishing for a while

i try to keep my watch free from scratches, however it is unavoidable at times. someone once told me, you are the master of the watch not a slave to the watch. the first scratch is usually the most painful, after that you get more immune. works for some people.

i know some members will really take good care of their watches. you know who you are.

I know many watch lovers/collectors prefer unpolished watches with light scrateches over polished swee swee watches...including myself

Consider that if you feel you might eventually sell on your PAM104, which I think you will...hehe

Does frequent polishing spoil the watch in any way?

Polishing takes away some material from your watch case. Sharp edges may become smooth after too much polishing.... It is like taking away the top layer to even out the places which has deep scratches.

Keeping a watch scratch free has nothing much to do with laziness or conscientiousness.
How can one, by being meticulously diligent, prevent scratches? I'm sure myself and the bunch of excuse finding people here of 'lesser caliber' would like to know.

The only way to have scratch free is to not wear it. Minimum contact.
If necessary, use very soft glove.

Even winding the watch will produce scratches.
                            Unless its ceramic or coated.
