  • How You Started Falling In Love With Rolexes...

was it a love at first sight or was poisoned by people around you...?
how old were you when you first put on your own rolex on your wrist?
was it a passion, collection or plain investment?
do you agree that rolexes are for the ah long, ah beng and contractors?

    i'm a rolex lover too...

    Good thread Bro Yeobt.

I love Rolex since I was in Secondary School. I was 37 years old when I bought my first Rolex. Before that, I had bought IWC, Omega, Oris, Seiko and Tag Heuer watches. As to why I waited so long to buy a Rolex watch, it is because I don't want to frighten my wife by investing $10K on a watch and she definitely recognises the Rolex brand when she sees one. I can smoke her that the IWC, Omega, etc. are cheap brands, but she knows the price of a Rolex for sure. I can justify to wear a Rolex now because I had climbed up the corporate ladder quite a fair bit, which means significant pay increments in recent years. Hence, my Rolex can see daylight now. As for whether Rolexes are for Ah Long, Ah Beng and contractors, I will say YES. Rolexes are for people from all walks of life, including lawyers, doctors, actors, bankers, etc. as long as you can afford it. Wear your Rolex in good health and God bless you.

I chanced upon a Rolex datejust about 3 years back...in my mum's drawer. It was left to rot for years coz my dad didnt want to wear it. It belonged to my grandfather.

Feel in love with it when I first saw it...and put it on my wrist 3 years back. Subsequently...I went to do lots of research on the watch and the brand...and eventually...it led to founding of this forum

I bought my first Rolex...preowned Exp II last june, sold it half a year later (sadly ) will try my best to get another Rolex this year if not mid next year latest. I m 17 now..btw...

                It was well...I could say...passion.

                Absolutely not...

my first rolex(gmt 1) is a wedding gift fm my wife. that did not kick start the hobby though.

start collecting only after i got my first preowned matte dial 5513. it was a beauty. sold it to fund a daytona. regretted till this day.

till date, have traded/buy/sell quite a few rollies. attracted to different model at different stages of collecting. current theme is GMT.

It started when I was 22 in my first working year. A lot of my senior in the office wearing Rollie, so I feel like I have to wear one also. So, go to a preowned store and asked for the cheapest one. They offered me an air king. So, that is my first rolex. At that time, I don't really like the watch, as I used to be Tag lover, Air King is just too simple for me, but most important is to wear Rolex to get the feeling of wearing same brand with the 'senior'. After 3 years, I flip my Air King with ExpyII. Now, I miss Air King and looking for another new one.

                            Why a Rolex ?

My first time i set eye on a Rolex, it was my father watch. i remember i was around 9 or 10years old, we stay in an attap kampong in Ah Hoon Road off Baliester Road. I would sit in my Dad room, watching him clean his Rollie. I can feel that he was very proud of his rollie.
One day he brought me out with him, we didn't talk. But i could feel great sadness in his face. We walked to a PawnShop just after Baliester Hill West Sch. That was last time i saw the watch. My Father never wore another Rolex again.
I meet my Wife in 1988, now after 19 years of marriage later, i got a pair of Rollie for our anniversary. My father will be 70 very soon .Guess what i am going to buy him for his 70 birthday.
