honestly. i think the market is transitional and soft right now. the GMT 2C is stabilizing but demand is definitely there. while the SD is some how getting cheaper cos everybody seems to be releasing it. it'll only be a couple of months before SD prices shoot back up again.

I was at Bezel the other day, saw Panerai 127, 249, Lange, IWC Chronos etc.
Normally some of these are hard to find, but now good pieces are appearing. Unfortunately, the owners are still asking high prices despite the market softening....
So no durian yet. hahaha

After trying to bull**** me on price, the guy went on to bull**** me on how he just sold the last piece, and that "he can try for me" if I really want one. Alamak, very poor conmen skill lah. But makes me feel the fella is really very dishonest. :-)
Anyway, a BNIB SD around late 7k or at 8k flat should be ok to buy I think. But 9k is ridiculous!
hmm, maybe I should a wait a little longer for the SD? have yet to see any BNIB at your mentioned price here.

As there is only a few ADs here and due to the pent up demand for certain Rolex models, e.g. SD, Daytona, LV, GV Milgauss and the Subs, it is extremely difficult for us to bargain on the price. The ADs attitude seem to be take it or leave it. Bargain some more and they will advise you to get a lower end DateJust or Air King. Some will show black face and start to be sarcastic and some of the elderly saleswomen may even start ranting off some motherhood statements. If you are really interested to save some money, maybe you can go to countries like Australia or New Zealand, where the currencies are now soft and economy is not as good as Singapore's. If less of us buy from the ADs here, then the glimmer of hope of buying at a lower price will get brighter.

daytona or any other watches are never good for investment. why? because watches are not investment tools.
rolex prices have been steadily increasing over the years. so if you buy it @ 12k in 2000. now you can probably resell it for maybe 13k? if this is what people call as investment, then it is.
the SS models are more sought after and hence demand for it is stronger compared to the non SS models. however, this is because of what people buying currently and in the past. what if suddenly all buyers prefer non SS models? the price of SS will fall.

My usual reply to this kind of question is that if you are buying any kind of decent luxury watch, it is best to go with a Rolex as it is more easily trade-able than other brands.
Now within the Rolex range of watches, if you are looking at something more biased towards an investment, then either you have to look at the limited edition models or go for a vintage limited edition. Unfortunately, these days Rolex seldom do "limited editions".
If you are still keen on staying with the Daytona, then you would have to expect to hold onto the watch for at least 10 years or so to ensure you haven't lost any money.

for investment? naa. dont bother! unless you are buying at 2-3k, and selling at full price. but if you buy at market price; and sell at market price, you're better off investing your money into something else.Currently wearing:
