One of my friend's friend brought 6 pcs rolex paul newman many years back and only wear one of them . The rest were sitting in the safe till recently he sold 4pcs . And earn quite a bit .

It's the model which would be in demand 10 years down the road which counts .
He said out of 10pcs only 1 pcs will really appreciate in value .

i find this statement of yours extremely spot-on. it's like a mirror reflecting my own hobby since 2000. i really dread to think abt it but todate, think i may have already chalked up abt 10k on this hobby. as for losses, i'd rather not think abt it.

maybe i should have rephrased this topic as "would you consider watches to be an investment"

But I am happy that we are all sharing our similiar but varied experiences. Keep it coming ya!

for me, watch is never an investment. like some people will ask is this model worth investing? i reply dont know. maybe/maybe not. however, the 116520 is a potential investment. cause unless you can predict the future, judging from its current trend, it is a lower risk investment compared to other models.

i try not to pay more than necessary for a watch. a 16710 cost me 5450 in jun07. to me, i would say i got the watch @ a decent price because 1 know someone paid the same amount few years back.

think i will be contented with just drooling and be happy for those who can afford it. buying such a watch will only create tension between me and my "home minister" which may potentially create a situation of permanent house arrest. then in future if i wanna go hiking with my buddies, i'd hv to retrieve my passport via the president's clemency.

Simple solution is to bribe the home minister with another Rolex

i know what how you feel and understand the thirst for watch. this is because i am in a similar position. this year alone bought a few pieces. my finance minister has officially declared that no more watches for the year 2008. this i can live with. but i will probably suffer from withdrawal symptons if im not allowed to surf watch forums.

sometimes it is not a bribe of rolex that will do the trick.

anyway finance minister has indicated that i need to indulge in other forms of investments already.

Varies from individual to individual. Some likes it because it's striking. Some just don't

Both are different watches. One is a vintage while the other is a popular cosmograph. If have choice, I want BOTH
