  • Advice needed: Removing Rust/Oxidization from Gold watches

    Hi Senior Bros & Sisters,
Any bright (and reliable) ideas on how to DIY remove discoloration/oxidization from gold pieces?
Noticed that some of my wife's watches have turned color and I guess rather then send them for polishing/cleaning, might as well try to get rid of it myself since there are no scratches on her pieces. Well, more scratches on her anyway because of our crazy dogs!

Thanks for the input mate, or I might just visit the hardware shop and give one of those gold polishing liquids a go.

      Cheers!

Serendipity indeed! I was at JW this past weekend and bought Polywatch acrylic crystal polish to touch up my wife's vintage watch's crystal scratches.
Didn't really remove the scratches all that well to but accidental applications on the gold managed to clear the rust/oxidyzation up!

So bros know what to use next time they encounter Gold-rust...hehe, I just hope there are no side effects of using Polywatch on gold!

My wife has been using those olden days make-up white powders(the one with a lady face on the box) to remove oxidisation on gold and silver for many year and there are no side effect from it. It is cheap and effective.
