  • Which GMT watch would you recommend, Rolex or Panerai or ...?

    Good day,

As I travel around abit, I have been searching for a usable GMT watch for a long while. I have bought and sold umpteen pieces from Sinn and Bell&Ross over the past few years as they do not appeal to me after a while.

I have decided to take a hard look at what appeals to me at this time and I have come up with the following:

    a) Rolex GMT Master II

I have bought and sold the Sub many times over the past few years as well as I cannot get use to the smaller size of the case. However I keep coming back to it as I miss it at times when I need to don a suit. I am just worried that I may sell off the GMT Master II again in a couple of months. Lolz

    b) Panerai 23 or 29

I have always enjoyed the older panerai models which are true to their heritage but am just unsure about the 23 or 29 plus it would be hard to find one which is complete with the 'A' series strap, buckle and whatsnot.

I am not sure if there are better options but I have looked at Blancpain, JLC and some others but the dials are too busy. Maybe you have a suggestion that I may have overlooked?

    Thanks!

Rolex GMT Master II. why? it is possible to tell the third time zone if you know how to work the hour marker, GMT hand and bezel.

+1 for the rolex gmt. why? because i find it the most legible out of all the GMT watches out there. the third time zone is a bonus.

Thanks triton and seiko.citizen! Much appreciated. I suspected as much and my heart says the GMT Master II as well but am still wary about the smaller case size. Its been a while since I have worn something smaller than 42mm.

This might be a bit lower end but the Mont Blanc Timewalker GMT is a feasible option at 42mm.
Easy to adjust and tell time too!

Thanks toffeestrings, yeshe, watcha and sshark! It seems like there is a undisputed winner for this i.e. GMT Master II. However it looks like I must wait a couple of months before I can grab one since I have another incoming PAM. Lolz

However a check on the used market seems to yield little GMT Master II. I am not interested in the newer ceramic bezel versions though.

in another few months, there could be one. as i said before, dont chase after the watch. get your bullets ready, when the time comes, just be ready to pull the trigger if the watch with your expected condition and price comes along.

+1 for GMT 2C as it is a more versatile watch which comes with good/useful functions. Just my 2 cents view.

hi, GMT 2/C has downside of no quick-set date, yes?

Definitely the GMT II. Regretted selling it for a Deepsea. Nicest 'modern' rolex IMO

Yes, no quick-set. The cal.3186 does not have a mechanism which engages the date. Just leave it on a winder and you're good to go

If you are keen on a GMT 1675 for an affordable vintage pepsi look....give me a PM. I have travelled up to MT Fujian in sub zero degree with this model(not this piece though) and it still tell me local and Singapore time up that at the peak!
