    Hi folks,

Just came back from Epi-lasik at Eagle Eye Centre at Mt Alvernia.

Pretty good experience. Been 2 hrs since the operation and no discomfort or what so ever now. Still waiting for the local anesthesia to wear off. Expecting some discomfort soon.

Overall excellent service from Dr Julian and the staff there. Friendly and caring.

Eye sight still blurry now but I already know that recovery is slower than typical Lasik.

I will share my experiences in this forum soon.

    Cheers!

      Lasik

      Hi friends,

I've been hearing people around me talking about lasik surgery, how good/bad/risky/worthy it is and I was wondering if I should do it. If there's anyone here who had undergone such surgery, you may like to share your experiences and knowledge on it. What pondered me are these :

Why are some eye doctors themselves still wearing glasses if they are "preaching" the goodness of this surgery? Are there hidden risks??

Some said after surgery, one cannot get even a slight, accidental hit on the eyes or serious damages may be caused. Does this mean that a patient has to wear 'goggles' for weeks/months?

Some said "lao hua yan" (long-sightedness) people cannot undergo lasik while others said can but must do the op twice?

      Let's share. Thank you.

Lasik. Whose gone for it and what are your thoughts?

Currently considering the above at the end of the year. Seriously thinking about doing in sg, as price is lower (in some cases 50% difference in price), and get a good holiday too.

Plan to be in sg at least 30 odd days. if need be, may even stay for close to 7 weeks so that I can arrange all my consults before flying out.

Have consulted a few surgeons in sg, and have narrowed it down to a couple. Namely:
        http://www.epilasik.com.sg/home; and
        http://www.lsc.sg/index.php

So far I have gone to about 3 surgeons locally to ascertain my suitability for lasik, the news seems to be promising; hence my decision to do in sg. also a couple of docs in perth even suggested that i consider going overseas to further my options.

Currently im trying balance out the pros/cons of the different treatments offered by both companies.

        epi-lasik pros:
no physical cut in the cornea
        cornea remains structurally sound
two post op appointment required; will be done and dusted within 10 days.

        epi-lasik cons:
longer healing time (inc increased initial blurriness)
        more pain

        lasik (bladeless) pros:
        improved healing times
        faster
in some cases depending on method used, can be cheaper than epi lasik

        lasik (bladeless) cons:
        cornea is cut to reshape
may experience night time discomfort due to glare and halos
3 follow up appointments required (the third needs to be within one year of surgery)

        cost:
epi lasik currently quoted at $3288 (source:epilasik)
        lasik range from $2877 - $4161
epi lasik at LSC $4043 (source: LSC Pricelist)

Anyone gone for lasik and what are your experiences. Also do share your surgeon (by PM if not convenient to share publically).

i did mine 2.5 years back. Did mine with PLSC, doc was previously with SNEC and is still a visiting consultant with them.

For the bladeless, i think you are refering to IntraLase? i did the normal one, cost me abt 2800. Turnover time is quite fast, right after the procedure, they ask you go home sleep.
Next day, its bright and clear. Just need to stay away from impact sports, swiming, and dusty places for 2 weeks. Antibotics for 1 week and plenty of Refresh Artificial Tears.

It takes a while for the brain and the eyes to get use to it, so alittle blurring now and then. Had alittle star burst effect on streetlamps for the 1st few days, then it was gone.

Best thing i have decided to do.

you may want to contact wolfeyes74 as well.

my doctor say NO! because there are risks. it is something that is relatively new. so no one can tell the long term effects (side included)

Just found out PLSC and LSC is actually part of the Singapore Medical Group, whose subsidiaries include the following:

                  Subsidiaries of SMG:

Singapore Medical Group International Partners @ www.smgip.smg.sg

and yes i was referring to interlase, however was told that interlase refers to the machine used to control the laser.

sounds like you had a really quick recovery, which is always a pro for me. i dont want to be spending long amount of time at home locked up in a room.

As for price, seems that in sg price fluctuates alot. even on same method procedures. in perth, i was recommended to get the procedure completed with a visx s4 laser. which both LSC/PLSC have.

then with a consult with another doc, they recommend epi-lasik so that there is no physical cutting of a flap. am going for another couple of consults locally before making a final decision.

i feel its abit commercialise, so some places might be pushing for higher end options to sell to you. i guess you should really look into what you are comfortable with.

Recovery is quick, there are other minor issues like i had to get my hair washed at the salon for 1 week, to avoid suds getting into my eyes, sponging my face for my daily facial wash and wearing a eye guard to sleep so that i dun rub my eyes when i sleep.. but then it could just be me..

everything these days is commercialised sadly! its a purely commercial world these days.

hair washing at salon wont be a problem. i will delay my haircut until december and shave botak and maybe i should wear googles into the shower to avoid getting water into my eyes.

now its time to call up my travel agent and ask them to keep an eye out for cheap tickets.
