Hi to all who are knowledgeable on camera (which means everyone else as i know nothing)..

Need help in getting a camera... missus at home wants to get a better quality digital camera... wanted one that is easy enough for her to use and is able to take better quality pictures than the regular digital compact camera... but not to the extend of those DSLR......

Of course, if the camera can take good macro shots of watches is best... i can use it as well...

If possible, can give me an estimate cost, any lobang is welcome as well..second hand should be okay too...

Kind people, help me out.. thanks alot in advance...

You may want to check out Sony's ILCs (interchangeable lens cameras) i.e. the NEX-3 or NEX-5. They are ideal if you want DLSR quality images, minus the bulky body.

I'm currently using the NEX-5. It is cross-breed between a DSLR & ultra-compact... and capable of delivering DSLR quality pictures. Complimentary Sony's 'Fundamental NEX Handling' workshop provided (not sure if the promotion is still on).

Other than Sony nex3 or 5, u can consider Panasonic gf series, olympus epl series or Samsung nx series.
U can go clubsnap to check out more info about these m4/3 cameras or u can also visit funan digitalife mall to have a better feel of the equiptments.
These range of cameras should set u about $1k +/-.
            Have fun in your search...

i have been using canon camera for past 20 years. so my opinions will be bias. i would suggest the canon s95 or G12. i bought my G12 earlier this year because i did not want to lug my DSLR everytime as it can be heavy and inconvenient.

i chose G12 over s95 because it has the functions/features i was looking for looking for. it is good for a person who just want to do PnS or someone who wants slightly more out of a camera for eg. simple watch photography shots. why i like about the G12 is that it enables you to look into the screen viewfinder as well. more importantly, you can adjust the view finder to face yourself if you want to take a shot of yourself and/or your partner without troubling someone else.

macro shots are abit of a challenge @ times. potrait and landscape shots are decent.

click here to see the shots taken using the canon G12.

                  olympus XZ-1

great zuiko 1.8 lens, big sensor... multiple art filter modes. currently have a S95 and also a Alpha DSLR user but played with the XZ-1 and is totally blown away by it's versatility and user friendliness

for a average user.. it's packs alot and more than you need.

anyway a PnS is good for 2 years IMHO before it becomes "obsolete and inadequate". factor in 730 days ..so it would only cost less than a dollar a day.

just get a new camera every 2 years .. photography tech moves so fast nowadays.

Thanks everyone for all your comments and thoughts. Looking at LX5 and S95, anyone has a rough guage of the price that it can be bought at?

My opinion, these three compacts are very close in performance: Canon S95, Panasonic LX-5, Olympus XZ-1.

I recommend you to read the review at http://www.bythom.com/. besides the reviews at dpreview.com.

S95 is the cheapest and smallest. So if you consider pocket size (and wallet size, haha), then this is the one.
