how the consignment deal works depends on shop to shop. i would suggest that you visit or call the pre own shops that you interested to deal with to find out more.

Depends, usually shops will quote you a price for consignment, say 2k for a particular watch. What you take back is 2k, he will earn the rest that he marks up.

While some shops let you set the selling price and they take a certain % of the price as commission. They might not accept your watch if they think your price is so high that it will not move, so as not to waste the space in their shop.

The above post have pretty much summed it up! Also if the watch doesn't move after a set amount of time, some retailers may ask that you take the piece back and try again later.

Would we need to pay if we manage to sell it through our own contact rather than through the consigned shops ?

my experiences tell me that if the consignment shop is unable to sell the item, they do not get paid.

however, i have heard of arrangements where you have to "rent" the space from the shop, then if they sell the item, they get a commission on top
