  • What's the mindset?

Often than not, I come across people buying back watches that they used to own. Sometimes, this can be 'disturbingly' repetitive over several times and not just once/twice. I know of one who had bought-sold-bought-sold-bought a ROLEX Seadweller; another who bought-sold-bought-sold-bought a PAM000; and one other who bought-sold-bought-sold-bought a PAM111. Actually I know some more others who are doing the same but let's leave it as that for now.

There is no right/wrong and I do know of certain 'unforeseen' circumstances why some may have to do that such as to tide over financial emergencies or something. But what about those who just do it "on any other day"?

There are so many nice watches out there that watch-siao like us would like to try, but due to limited fund and limited wrist time issue, we very often sell watches that we are not very sure about letting go just so that we can experience something else.

It's a little bit like our feeling towards women, you know. you are always tempted by other women out there even though you already have a very good one. So sometimes you venture out, and then realise what you had before is still better/make you feel more comfortable, and you go back to her.

The difference between watches and women though, is that for watches you can buy-sell-buy-sell-buy-sell, while for women...you are lucky if you are given one chance

This is an interesting observation bro.

Perhaps it is attributable to....the feeling that the original or the first instance is better afterall. The grass is not always greener on the other side.....

            i think i know someone who buy-sell 5513

if buy sell the same model,
            1. maybe is to avoid the servicing cost?
            2. maybe is mentality not to own more than X number of watches concurrently?
            3. maybe is reminisce?

              Dunno why they do it.

It's hard to explain. Buying same model and losing $$.

If the loss is less than servicing cost I can understand.
But many were sold within months.

Partly because after they sold it, they realize the love is still strong I think.

you never fully appreciate it until its sold off; thats when the sellers remorse kicks in.

You are not talking about me right. Can't remember how many 5513 I bought and sold. Cos was looking for certain variant. Now, finally settle on a 5512. But if I find a nice gilt, it may happen again.

I also bought sold bought sold and now thinking of buying 190. Sell cos attracted by something else. After selling, miss the piece.

Could also be that I first bought a watch not in complete set (eg. without papers) and/or not very good in condition. And I like the watch so much that I sell it away, top up some money to buy another of the same watch in complete set and better condition for long term collection.

I believe one of the main reasons is the problem of "the watch always looks nicer on the other person's wrist". I feel this way sometimes especially when I see others wearing watches that I also have. The (same) watch seems to look nicer on that person than me. And if I no longer have that watch, I start to feel a sense of regret. However the thought of wanting it back did not really sink in to me because I really don't feel right about it, especially if the watch price has appreciated. It really, really doesn't make economical sense, right? Well, what the heck! This is watch collecting ..

I agreed with Bro Oceanklassik, some watches might look nicer on other people wrist rather than on us, and sometimes we juz buy the watch on impulse juz becoz we wanna to own it at that moment. Juz sharing my experience, although I dun have the habit of selling any watches yet but I am hestiating whether I should sell some of my collections due to the lack of wrist time to fund another watch which I wanna. For example, I bought an Ebel Tarawa watch becoz of it's unique design, when I put it on, it looks nice on my wrist and I bought it on impulse. But then, it seems not the type I wanna as times passes by, that's why the lack of wrist time which honestly I would say I only wear it less than 5 times.
