  • What's your old Altis Mileage?

    hey guys,

Any of you driving a old Altis? My car is a March 06. Recently after changing to a new battery, I realized the mileage is now only 9km/l. This not a Altis standard. I do a lot of city driving and my car just got major service less than a month ago.

hmm... any advice? May time to change car liaoz...

city driving = stop/start + aircon. that will be quite a strain on the fuel.

whilst i dont drive an altis, my 5s-fe does about 10-11l/100km (9-10k/ltr), bear in mind, im doing semi city driving, conservative driving and i have a larger displacement. Using 92Ron fuel too!

You may want to try premium 95 or even 98 Ron. it is said that premium unleaded can get slightly better milage, but to be honest, i dont feel any difference in my 5sfe, even my mom's car running the C35A (honda legend) doesnt feel any difference in using premium

here in perth, only selected BP and caltex got 98 ron.

bro, I'm currently using 95, which is pretty standard in Singapore. As for me, it is mostly city driving, after all, Singapore is a city!!! haha... a lot of start/stop + aircon. Maybe I need to check my tyre pressure as well.

I remember in a honda odyssey when stuck in the jb>sin jam. you can literally see the needle moving. s80 also.

afaik, 95 ron is already considered premium.

i dont know much about cars. can a conspiracy theory be that now that your battery is new and more powerful, it gives 'more power' to drain the fuel? hence your car fuel consumption is decreasing?

why monitor how it performs for the next 2 weeks.

im not a mechanic, only someone who has very basic knowledge in cars.

but it doesnt sound logical to me. battery only power up the starter motor, and is promptly recharged by the alternator. dont see the link between battery + FC.

i can only think of a few things:
            air intake
            buildup in engine
            tyre pressure
            engine running rich

if you are a person interested in DIY, i say seafoam your engine.

check when was your last service, and see what was done.

I think the mileage problem maybe due to the tyres pressure. All 4 were under 30 psi. This morning I pump all 4 to 34 psi. now the driving feeling is different. car is more responsive and smoother.

Yea under pressure tyre does lower mileage.

Don't think it's the battery. I just change batt too. Modern engine batt die car die. Haiz

wait til you drive the s class. if the electronics battery fail, the whole car uplorry, because the central locking requires a vacuum pump to operate. worse still, the trunk will not open causing you having to get a second battery, to short the terminals in front .

as for tyre pressure, make it a habit to check when the tyres are cold and pump air. i always carry an air pressure gauge (i bought cheap, so i got many pieces) and check in the morning; on the way to work, the first petrol kiosk will go in and pump air.

for those too lazy to check air, i believe nitrogen is more stable, and less likely to leak. but pricey. last time in oz, A$10-15/corner.
