Where are the local job applicants in sg?

Recently my uncle put me in charge of filtering thru a large list of job applicants for "Chemist" position.

And noticed that out of a pool of 40ish, not one S'porean applied. I got applicants from India, Malaysia, Burma, Philippines, even one application from NZ. I do not profile by foreigner or local. Of course; dealing with locals is much easier, both for management and with customers. But given the circumstance, no locals are applying. What gives?

Which begs me to ask this question. Can so called "FT" be blamed for 'stealing' jobs that no S'poreans not want to do?

Btw; I am still leaving my options open, and anyone who wants to apply for a position of "Chemist" is more than welcome to PM me, and I will forward your details to my office.

I oso like to apply but i signed a lifetime slavery contract with my current company about 5 years back...hehehehe...

O level chem result is oso c6....

I bet that if a Singaporean applied and he was invited for the interview, he would probably not even turn up!
If you offered them the job, he would still not turn up!

They're either all SPR or foreign workers.

It's not for the lack of trying. I wrote a letter to the ST Forum about this issue. It really irks me when I hear them complaining about foreigners taking jobs and forcing house prices up and all that cr@p.

Wow...okok....sound really bad eh...i suppose depend on the industry u r in...for me....same issues...hard to retain or even attract Singaporeans to work here too...

i think the problem lies on when a singaporean study chem or any less demand dip/degree, the chance of working in similiar industry are very slim. most of them came out to work force will start hunting office job.

i have alot of friends study IT/engineering/art, when they hunt for job, normally are office job. jobs that are irrelevant to their studies or even die die dun go into similar industry. i might be wrong but for foreigners, when they look for jobs, they will try to whack any jobs be it relevant or not in order to stay in singapore. locals have plenty of time to find but a jobless FT dun.

what is the chemist required to do?...

Responsibility:
Chemist with experience in paint/ink. Experience in screen print and polymer printing.
New experience in Inkjet Ink development for PIEZO Commercial Printers will be beneficial.

Will be actively involved in the manufacture and QC of the above.

Job from time to time may also require you to formulate new products for use in relating industries.

Support technical and sales staff in ink quality related issues
Serve in a QC capacity to insure product consistency to customers; as well as ensuring that raw materials supplied is of consistent quality so as not to adversely affect the final product.

Requires:
Chemistry, chemical engineering or related
experience working with polymers/screen print and inkjet ink
excellent networking skills with raw material suppliers

Salary: Negotiable upon successful application
