Is it wrong to love quartz?

Hello,
I spoke out yesterday when a forum member here asked the question - "do I buy a 19108 or a 18038 Day Date President?" The 19018 being a Quartz Day Date.

I immediately entered the debate and advised to stay away from quartz due to the movement - being with no soul and also the high cost of repair if something goes wrong.

I answered honestly - trying to protect my friends from a bad move!

Anyhow. I have a personal delema!

My watch box is 1 watch short (I have 5 pieces for a 6 piece watch box - Rolex Explorer 1, Rolex Explorer 2, Patek Philippe 5107, Omega Speedmaster Pro, Vacheron Constantin 6405).

I just got the chance to buy a Cartier Steel Panther very very cheap. When I say cheap I am talking crazy low price for a really top piece from Germany. Not some molested Thai or Malaysian piece! A genuine 1 owner German piece with papers and very little wear. The price is about US$950-
Piece is with papers and in really nice condition - slight dial imperfection at 12 position. But not a high issue considering the condition!

It is in my preference colour - steel or white gold.

I have always had a soft spot for the Cartier Panther.

Do I take the plunge?

not wrong to love quartz. i quite have a softspot for the OQ; infact i like the OQ case with the automatic mov't more.

whilst some of what you said is true; when it comes to repair bills. heck even replacing the battery cost more than usual. in true rolex form
